Congratulations to freshman Pat Cogan on winning this years Coke's Most Devoted Fan Contest.  Pat, also known as Fat Pat, is the guy who usually sits in row 3 of section 106 with the fat suit, basketball mask, and blue and gold hair.  He is always on the jumbotron so I'm sure most people know who I'm talking about.  This was a nation wide contest and everybody who entered had to submit a 2 minute video about why are their schools biggest fan.  For being the grand prize winner Pat gets an all expense paid trip to Atlanta for the Final Four, including flights, hotels, spending money, and 2 TICKETS TO ALL THREE OF THE FINAL FOUR GAMES!!!!  A well deserved prize for a huge Marquette fan...he'll represent us well.  Be watching during the final four as I'm sure they'll show clips of his winning video clip and congratulate Pat if you see him during any remaining MU games.

🏀

Congrats.

Would have been nice if see Part Cogan come out to other event as well. Coming in a a big 15 events accoridng to gomarquette.com

Are you drunk again?

🏀

Yes, yes I am. Still sour over my previous statements I see. Hopefully, this topic doesn't become the only thing you comment on/attack for the next couple months.

Ardent, often selfless affection and dedication, as to a person or principle. Definition of devotion.

15 games, not really devoted.

drewm88

Those points are updated through the Seton Hall game. Seton Hall was the 15th home game. For those who aren't familiar with the system, that means that up to that point, Pat went to at least 15 games combined between men's and women's soccer, volleyball, and men's and women's basketball.

Just wanted to make it clear that Pat probably has been to the vast majority of the basketball games.

I'm assuming, ptm, that you are looking for Pat to be attending other sports? It would be nice, but figure that he has more points than the VAST majority of the university, and he does more when he's there than most as well.

Pat also runs a group on Facebook dedicated to "poking" our next opponent. He looks up the opposing players on Facebook and sends links out to the 560 members. They then poke the players. Basically this means that when they log into Facebook, they get hundreds of alerts saying "so and so from Marquette has poked you." Just a little something extra Pat has been doing.

Congrats to him! Keep it up!

yep, and a womens game once or twice.

MU10

This contest was for the biggest basketball fan, hence the prize is a trip to the final four.  Maybe Pat doesn't go to every single womens soccer, volleyball game but with the exception of a few ppl, does anybody really go to all of that?  The kid does have a life.  As far as basketball is concerned, he's by far the biggest MU ball fan I've ever met.  He drove from Cleveland to Kansas City after finding out at the last minute he got tickets to the Duke-MU bball game then turned right around after the game and drove back...that's dedication.

🏀

Since it's just basketball that's cool. Driving to KC isn't anything to be bragging about either though, many people made that trip.

It's not that he doesn't go to any other events, it's that he's been to none. Going to volleyball and soccer games are not time consuming to say the least.

I must give props to one Robert Gach, that is the most devoted fan at Marquette. He earned his trip to the BE tournament.

spartan3186

Not to bash him but he is not even the most dedicated basketball fan. Dont get me wrong he's there all the time and always supporting but he's not the most dedicated fan. Two of my good friends get there MUCH earlier than he does. They are usually there at least an hour before anyone else arrives. They arrived at 8 pm on friday night for the madison game... no one else arrived before 4am. Thats dedication. On top of that one of them went to the Texas Tech, Duke, Valpo, Providence, DePaul and Notre Dame away games... talk about dedication.

Again congratulations to him for winning and i hope he wins it all cause he represents MU well. I just thought some other super dedicated people should get some recognition too.

🏀

Dedication for basketball goes to the boxers. Hands down.

spartan3186

Thank you for naming the people I was referring to. I forgot to mention it in my rant

drewm88

Absolutely. I like to think of myself as quite dedicated to Marquette athletics, but there's a handful of students who surpass me in terms of attendance, and then more that outshine my dedication to the basketball team. (Like those who were waiting a while for the tip of Idaho State/Maine.) These kids deserve recognition. I like the fanatic rewards program. It covers all levels of involvement/attendance, from 10 events over the year all the way up to 50 and the #1 guy. Maybe they could do more for the basketball die-hards, though.

drewm88

MU soccer and volleyball games? What more of a life could I want from August to Mid-November??

🏀

The sheer amount of people that go to all men's games make it pretty hard to accomplish something to recoginze them.

Three years ago there were 10-13 kids that made it to all the games, and we were honored at half-court. That number is GREATLY multiplied this year.

That last women's soccer game against Florida was probably the best MU game I've seen in person this year. Thrilling from start to end.

drewm88

I was thinking more along the lines of those that go to every game and are there without fail when the doors open. I would be able to pick out most of them, so I'm sure the AD staff could select them. Maybe 15 or so get dinner with Crean? I would see that as both fitting and awesome.

The boxers are great, but my personal favorite is  MUfan12. He stands at the back corner of 106 and does more than anyone to fire up the rest of the students.

As for that Florida game, it was both thrilling and heart-breaking, especially on Al-Mal's breakaway miss. And I'm still not over the sheer luck of that final save.

In case it wasn't totally clear, Pat actually did win it all...he won the grand prize and he does get 2 tickets for all the games along with the trip to Atlanta.  There is a person selected from each school who gets to go if their schools gets in the final four but the Grand Prize winner (Pat) gets to go regardless if Marquette makes it to the final four or not.

Mayor McCheese

amazed they didnt give it to some stupid Cameron Crazie, that is awesome that he won

Thanks for the kind words, drewm88. Truth be told, any one of the regulars in 106, and those who usually grace the front row of 224 (maxpower and co.), are extremely dedicated. Had the chance to meet some good people, and it has been a fun ride.

Still hard to believe that Saturday will be it.

MU gimp ONE

I may have read something wrong, but didn't it say that he had to submit a video describing why he is a dedicated fan?  so in the end there may be a lot of dedicated fans, but he was actually the smartest one to send in a video.  Because he took the time to enter the contest you can't bash him.  I am sure there are more "dedicated" fans this year, but they must not have entered the contest.  That is like saying that you deserve to win the lotto more than the last guy, but you never actually bought a ticket.

Good going for pat to enter and win.  congrats to everyone else that shows dedication, you should be proud of it without needing a message boards recognition.

Anyone of you could have sumbitted a video...But none of you did

If you were so confident that you were the best fan why didnt you send in a video.

I am thinking that you were spending to much time at the womens field hockey game while Fat Pat was beating you to the punch.

In my opinion, if you are a student and on this board you are a pretty good fan as you actually have an opinion on MU hoops.

I agree the Boxers are good too, and  I see them way more than Fat Pat but once again just like the Lottery...You got to play to get paid

MU Fan, don't be surprised if Saturday gets a little emotional, especially if we win.

The Section 106 alums in Section 429 were fortunate to go out on top against Providence last year.
The General had to watch us suck it up against SLU and Western Michigan.

It's your last game down there man, so enjoy it, and don't leave anything in your voice box. Leave it all on the floor.
