Random bit of gossip.

I was at the MLB store at Brookfield square last weekend, and I happened to overhear two of the workers there discussing JP Tokoto. One worker was telling the other how he was a close family friend of Tokoto, and that he apparently has the inside scoop on Tokoto. He claimed that all of the rumors of him being interested in MU were completely bogus, especially when he has the chance to go to a powerhouse like UNC, Duke or Kansas.

That being said.....

I have a tremendous amount of faith in Buzz's ability to recruit and get in top flight players that others don't give him a legit chance with. I think having him at the BBQ was a fantastic thing, and I really hope he does go to Marquette!

Wow. A scoop in Brookfield that JP is not interested in MU. Quick, call the Enquirer!

I'm embarrassed for you.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw JP Tokoto pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

MarkCharles

In all fairness, I don't think we'd be chastising daviddiggsdawg so much if the gossip he heard was that JP was leaning towards MU.

That being said, who cares? I think JP's presence at the bbq yesterday shows he has at least some interest in MU. And I'd bet "close family friend" translates to "I drive by his house on my way to the MLB store at Brookfield Square". This sounds like its coming from the type of Badger fan who thinks JP will go to UW because he had a UW flag outside his house (true story-I've heard people say that)

Aren't you a big Syracuse homer?  I was really shocked that Rautins got drafted.  Congrats.  That got my attention.

Tokoto...Tokoto...Tokoto...

DavidDiggsDawg

as much as I hate, HATE madison, that wasn't one of the schools even mentioned by the kid. It was my initial thought as well that this kid was a UW homer trying to get a rise out of his buddy, but they were never mentioned. Truth be told, I have no idea who the kid is and if he has any legitimate claim to knowing Tokoto. Considering the fact that he keeps showing up at the majority of the MU events can't be a bad thing. I really hope Buzz keeps him in the area and helps showcase the depth of talent that Milwaukee and Wisconsin can have!

....By the way, that was a GREAT Ferris Bueller reference, +15 for creativity!

The point being that if Lazar can get drafted in the first round by playing out of position for four years, what's a more highly touted recruit like Tokoto going to be able to accomplish with Buzz actually bringing in big men to play?

Yeah I would.

I have heard all sorts of Tokoto rumors...from people that claim to know him, his family, his coach, etc.  They all conflict with one another.  They really aren't worth posting.

I mean, he overhead two employees talking at the MLB store in Brookfield?  C'mon...

Benny's rule #1 on recruiting inside information: 99% of inside information is held by family, coaches and confidants, i.e. people who have enough respect to keep their mouth shut.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I have seen this guy play a couple of times and I don't think he is anything special.

I think Chicago fair weather fans only jumped on the Ferris Bueller band wagon after it was a box office hit... and because it was filmed there.  I'm surprised some of the Chicago haters on this board actually would like a movie filmed here!

Saw a dude (on TV) at the Brewer game yesterday.  Standing up cheering.  Immediately thought of Ferris @ Cub game.  Wonder if the guys boss was watching.  Ferris was a fair weather fan too.

Apparently Roy Williams, Mike K, and Buzz all must be way off base on their assesments of JP.  Your post is really pretty shocking - come on D-Wade fan.  JPT is Tracy McGrady like smooth..he makes it look effortless...and keep in mind the kid was only 15 last year.

I Could respond with that to 90% of the posts on here.

Why attempt discredit people who watch enough highschool basketball to have seen a 16 year old play a few times?  He's entitled to his opinion, although I would like more on what exactly is lacking that keeps him from being 'special'.

bamamarquettefan

got to side with Brewton Andy over GoodGreatGrand on Lazar's pick.  I'm sure every kid watches the draft, and I'm pretty sure that Tokoto was more likely to choose Marquette after watching Lazar's name called at the end of the first round than he would have been a year ago after watching Wesley and Jerel skipped.

It's all an expectation game.  Lazar was not supposed to be a first rounder - wasn't he the second best player on his high school team behind Paul Harris?  So if four years of Marquette is a path to the NBAs first round for a player starting from where Lazar came from has to be a plus.  Now, I don't know how serious Tokoto is - maybe he was 5% Marquette after watching Lazar's name be called and 2% after seeing the NBA pass on the Amigos, but hopefully he is giving MU a good look and the chances are greater.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).
