Chip Brown has easily been the number one resource on the realignment so far.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

Is the motivation keeping the Big-12 together or for A&M to go to the SEC?

Depends on what Texas decides to do.  If they go to the Pac Ten (or Big Ten), A&M goes SEC.  If Texas stays...A&M stays.

Not sure if Chip Brown aka Jizz Mop is right on this.   A&M insider Billy Liucci says A&M hasn't turned down Pac 10 (yet).

Gene stallings, who coachws bama to the 1992, now works with a and m was pushing hard all last week for them to turn down the pac 10, get out from texas shadow, and he'd like them to go all the way and go to his old second with arkansas as their rival.

Texas longhorns ego has been the driver so far.

1. They killed the b10 because they couldn't handle having an equal (osu) in the same conference.

2. They drove nebraska out by the way the ran the big 12 and then trying to cut their own deal while telling nebraska to stay put.

3. They assumed everyone they wanted would follow them to the pac 16, and then at the summit with a and m last week that even their partner was sick of them.

Maybe the next time they tell us the rest of the teams shouldn't get the same march madness payouts they do because they don't bring in as much as them, they should remember that a lot more people enjoyed watching butler's six tournament games than their one game.

A&M to SEC makes sense in so many ways.  Gives SEC a Texas market.  Gives Arkansas a rival, finally.  Allows A&M to get out of the Texas shadow.  Many reasons for A&M to go to the SEC rather than the Pac Ten.  What I want to see is what happens with Texas pols if this goes through.  If A&M goes to the SEC and Texas to the Pac Ten or Big Ten, then you still have the Baylor question.  If Texas goes to the Big Ten, what does Texas Tech do....Pac Ten?

I agree --Big 12 future is Mostly dependent on UT going to Pac 10, or not(but OU to Pac 10, or SEC is a wild card, that A&M is trying to get OU to play in favor of SEC--see below).

. A&M's interest in SEC is not just acting independent of UT.

It recently had a huge athl dept deficit (over $100 mil) which had to be balanced/paid for w/taxpayer/genl funds. It contributed to ouster of A&M president (along w/Gov Perry's meddling).

So SEC would cease the A&M arms race w/UT, get A&M assured big $ w/SEC, and the SEC likes the poss. of entering Houston, and Dallas TV markets. Also, this early firm word from A&M is intended to have OU keep thinking-- as SEC would REALLY like to get OU also, and have OU prefer SEC, at its tuesday meeting.
Then....if A&M AND OU are SEC leaning---guess what---you may hear UT sing to OU and A&M--lets keep the Big 12 together, after all-- because UT's preferred choice is either the Pac 16, or a continued B12--not the SEC(yes--UT likes a "good" conf in which it is automatically in the top 3, and it cant say that of SEC in FB.).
A&M would totally love hearing it being ASKED by UT to stay--in Big 12. Yes, there are egos and feelings involved among these schools-- and strategic caryovers from their very hot 2 day closed door meetings of 10 days ago(in which Neb decided to leave).
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

FWIW, Stallings was a player and a coach at A&M long before he went to 'Bama.  One of the legendary Junction Boys, Stallings found his way to Bama on the Bear's deceased coattails.

Lucci is the Aggie House Organ.  This might be the one scoop he has on Chip in this entire storyline -- Chip is all over this one

Those of us here in Texas are almost totally dismissive of Baylor as any factor. Ann Richards is not the governor, Pac 10 already nuetered Baylor with Cal berkley opposition to the Baptist/private/conservative leanings not fitting, and by pre-empting on the Colo invite. Lets just forget Baylor in this as any real factor. I agree on the rest Chicos.

Baylor... heheheh .... TCU is strong-arming the Mountain West to make sure the Bears don't get invited there, either.

Baylor president, Ken Starr promises Baylor can do for any conference, as well as he did for Pres Clinton's legacy. lol

Oh, believe me, with Richards deceased, it's a different ball game.  Doesn't mean some of the Texas pols won't try like crazy, however.

I'm hoping Houston, Baylor, TCU, etc might find a way into the same conference....I have selfish reasons because of Rhoades, obviously.

From Chip Brown: "Cook said A&M has not turned down the Pac-10 and denied Orangebloods.com's report to that effect, citing a Big 12 AD's confirmation."
