2010 recruit question
« on: June 03, 2010, 09:27:23 PM »
A bit ago everybody thought somebody was going to leave or not qualify academically. Did that come to pass after Mbao left or are we still oversigned right now?

Right now we are at the limit.  However we are apparently still recruiting and a number of reports suggest that something may happen soon.  If that is the case, someone else would have to leave via transfer or prep school.

Just curious where you have heard something will be happening soon. I've heard we are still recruiting, just haven't heard anything in awhile with names or that anything was imminent. I've been kind of curious as to who we have been recruiting for the last spot since it sounds like someone is still going prep school even though Mbao left.

I know that Jamail is def in Milwaukee already, and Davante is on his way. Does anybody know if Jae, Reggie, and Newbill are there yet?

In the "Kevin Noreen Still Undecided" thread, IWB said:

"Sorry to the Scoop posters from my brief appearance and rant, before long I will give everyone something to be excited about."

I took that to mean that some sort of announcement was going to be made, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Jae won't be here until July.

Vander hasn't even finished his school year yet, and then has Team USA tryouts.  If he doesn't make it, he'll be here by the end of June.  If he makes it he won't be here until July.

Now that you mention that, I remember that quote and thought that something was happening soon as well. Thanks.

Those tryouts for  Vander in San Antonio? and say Noreen signed... how would he function on this team? second behind Otule at the 5?

Noreen ain't coming to MU...waiting on an ACC waiver on his BC LOI release and hoping UNC has a spot for him at the end of the cake walk music.

I don't think so.  I see Noreen as a 4 who causes matchup problems like Novak with his perimeter shot, and ball handling.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

We've heard from DJ Newbill's coach that DJ will be here in July, and that everything is in order with his SAT, GPA, etc.  From  the last reports I heard, Gardner had not yet qualified - granted everyone has to go through the Clearinghouse - but from the reports I heard, as of the time he signed...I don't believe he'd yet obtained required SAT scores.  If a player were to prep...it would seem it has to be Smith (and there has been speculation regarding his current qualification status) or Gardner....which would open up the additional slot for a new 2010 recruit.

So Vander, Jamail, Newbill, and Jae are all good?  Facebook is nothing to rely on but Gardner's more recent statuses seem to indicate that all is well, and explicitly address grades. Hopefully we dodge a bullet I don't want anyone in this class to leave.

Not yet qualified, but he put this on his FaceBook last night...

757 to the 414 haha on my way there n cant beat stp no mo cuz the grades r like that now haha

A friend then asked if he was on his way now, and Gardner replied "Yea". If he is the guy who allegedly knew he was going to prep school, he's not giving any clues of it. Like jhags, I'm hoping all these guys qualify for next year.

Per ESPN's insider, as of yesterday, MU is still at the top of (or at least on, if the order is meaningless) Noreen's list.
HILLTOP SENIOR SURVEY from 1984 Yearbook:
Favorite Drinking Establishment:

1. The Avalanche.              7. Major Goolsby's.
2. The Gym.                      8. Park Avenue.
3. The Ardmore.                 9. Mugrack.
4. O'Donohues.                 10. Lighthouse.
5. O'Pagets.
6. Hagerty's.

It'd be nice, but I agree with the above post of him waiting for ACC... in particular UNC.

We shouldn't hold our breathe on this one fellas

Buzz knows best, but I think he should start recruiting for next class.  He cannot fix our big man issues in one swipe.  I say replace Butler with a swing man and Fulce with a banger, maybe even another JUCO PF like Fulce.  Get similar players as they are.  Then, replace Buycks with a big man project to even out the positions on the team in 2011-2012.  Then the roster is pretty well balanced.

You dont think Buzz is recruiting for the 2011, 2012 classes and beyond? If you dont think he is, then you dont have a clue.

Thanks for giving me a clue.  I don't get why people feel the need to act like this is CNN crossfire.  I really don't like participating in that kind of stuff.  Just wanna talk hoops and Marquette.  I don't come on here to try to prove my intelligence and I really, really, really don't appreciate comments like that.

I think Malone is just suggesting that Buzz focus on the future.
