The gophers?

On the gophers boards we are listed as 1 of about 10 teams in discussion with the gophs to start a home and home series possibly as soon as this coming season. Obviously all the gopher fans are in favor of this match up above all as it could be a nice border rivalry.

The gophers are my second favorite team so id love to see this happen.

I would like to see this.  Play to the alumni base in the Twin Cities and get donations from alums.

Brewtown Andy

Not against it, but I don't know if I see the value in playing two B10 teams in our nonconference schedule.

I like that the Gophers are a Big 10 team and relatively local. But I'd rather see us do a series (not necessarily a home and home) with Northwestern. The Chicago alumni/fan base dwarfs that of the Twin Cities.

I've also never understood why we play the College of the Little Sisters of the Poor in non-conference rather than play Loyola-Chicago. They'd love to have MU come down 41 to play at the Gentile Center. If we can do a 3-1 with UWM, I'm sure Loyola-Chicago would do the same. Same with University of Illinois-Chicago.

As for local 1 for 1's, how about Butler? That'd be awesome.

I am pretty sure that thread on the Gopher board was just hypothetical...a list of schools that they "would like" to see them play.

I really hope they can sign the rumored deals with USC and LSU for 1 and 1s. Buzz is trying to establish a presence in both areas, and playing those games would be huge for that.

A 3 for 1 with Loyola or UIC does absolutely nothing for anyone, and likely would not be finacially viable.

money, money, money.
If we are all thinking alike, we're not thinking at all. It's OK to disagree. Just don't be disagreeable.

The Gophers board never said they are in discussion with MU, just that they are looking for a H/H with a BCS school like the Gophers are. Sorry, I would love to play another Big Ten school also.

It's not a done deal yet but.. @USC 2010-2011 USC at MU 2011-2012
                                        @LSU 2011-2012 LSU at MU 2012-13

I didnt say discussions. MU is one of about 10 teams the gophers themselves are looking into trying to scedule for a home and home. They probably havnt spoken to over half the teams about it yet but its what they are trying to work around opening in the scedule.

As for butler Id love to see that match up.....Northwestern not so much.

You don't think more tickets would be sold at the BC for Loyola-Chicago or UIC than would be sold for Coppin State?

Nope. Not enough to make a difference. It really wouldnt do anything for us.  Those teams arent good, and dont have a signifcant fan base. Plus, they would likely require a return game, which we cant just give away.

This has been discuss ad nauseum.

Xavier? Dayton? Detroit?

Again, all of these teams are going to require return games, something that MU really isnt in a position to do. We are already giving UWM and UWGB return games, in addition to going to UW every other year.

I would rather devote what we have left to BCS level schools, in areas of the country that we are recruiting and trying to make an impact in.

This is why I really hope the USC and LSU deals get done.

UIC or Loyola wouldn't sell any more tickets than a Coppin St.
Xavier and Dayton would want home games back. Hay, who knows if the Big East gets pick by the Big Ten and ACC for football, Xavier and Dayton might be in a league with MU down the road.

Actually, you did say "discussions."  But that isn't important.  You are jumping to conclusions that there is any communication between MU and Minnesota.  There is a website dedicated to college scheduling so teams can search for potential opponents and dates.  Along with several other teams, MU has posted that they are looking for a home/home series.  The Gopher board was simply listing schools that are looking for home & home series' and therefore MU was included in the discussion thread.

Doris Burkes Thong

I've always wished MU could start a series with Illinois. That would be an attractive draw for sure. Plus, I'm sure Deron Williams and Wes would have a good time with it. ;D

A few years ago there were rumors of an Illinois-MU game in the works at Miller Park.  The idea was, besides selling a lot of tickets, that Miller Park could get itself ready to try and get a Final Four.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

What??? Dumbest idea ever! How do the dimensions of a baseball stadium correlate to that of a basketball setup? Its getting to the point of - HOw many tickets, even if most have terrible views, can we sell in any given stadium? At least football stadiums have jumbotrons hanging down to the middle of the field/court and the dimensions are more rectangular than a basball field. I hope I never see that happen. If Miller Park wants more revenue, they can host concerts./pony shows/dog shows....just not basketball.

sounds like you've not been to a final four.  tens of thousands of seats at the super bowel in 2003 were so far from the court that they couldn't have seen the players numbers with binoculars.  It was just as bad at the regionals in MN (in the cheater-dome).  The view from the far end of the carrier dome seems horrible, although I've never experienced that.  Point being, I don't think Miller Park would be the worst venue for a final four.

PGsHeroes32

i resent the nickname cheater dome........we win anywhere

Except away from home in the playoffs, or anywhere against the Yankees in the playoffs for that matter.

ok, we win anywhere against "clean" players. You're name is incorrect...
