Their president was quoted as "being disappointed" ....Cal refused to comment.

QuoteThe UK players' individual GPAs in the fall semester ranged from 3.59 to 1.667. Four were at 2.0 or lower. Two were better than 3.0. (UK released only the individual averages, not the names of players who made the grades.)

I am.

With all of that money coming in, you'd think they'd find better tutors or easier classes for them.

at the bottom of the story, a number of UK fans are sticking up for him, shifting the blame to the professors. when you recruit one and done's though, i don't know how much a professor can really motivate a guy who will be gone in 9 months or less.

[Yawn] Who cares? Is this supposed to have "shock value?" Coach Cal + UK = payday.

Here is a far more interesting question: WHat will the average salary next year be of the kids that were below average students? Call me crazy but if Im walking in John Wall's shoes, I'm going to spend my one year of college partying and playing basketball. What a life.

Next question: Should the NBA get rid of the age limit? Lets take a look at Brandon Knight. He is a straight A student and WANTS to go to college. He'll play at UK for one year and go to the NBA. Now, what's wrong with that? Perhaps some of you have forgotten that when the NBA didnt have an age limit rule, there were still plenty of one-and-dones. For every Lebron, there was a Melo. Getting rid of the age limit will not suddenly produce great student-athletes. I enjoyed watching a lot of the one-and-dones this year....and last year....and the year before that. This IS about entertainment, no? Do some of you really think this is about an education? Plus, what do you make of the 4 and dones that do nothing academically (like Stanley Robinson)? Im guessing there are FAR MORE Stanley Robinsons in college sports as there are John Wall's. The difference is that Wall (or another one and done) only inflicts 'reputation' damage for a year....as opposed to a football player that inflicts damage for at least 3 years. You want to argue that Mick Vick was a great student?

QuoteWe certainly anticipate that going up in the spring semester.

Why? Cause 9 of them have dropped out?

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

But...but..... a 1.667 GPA at UK?????......... ;D

The 2 players that placed below a 2.0 are most likely Bledsoe and Cousins. John Wall had the highest GPA on the team with a 3.45 or something like that and Knight's family is really big on school. He has had a 4.0 or higher throught high school and he might stay for 2 years.

I'll call you crazy.  I'd think a one and done should take some acting/communications classes (like Wade did), accounting, marketing, business management, etc. Sounds like he was spending time in class, which can only serve to help him in the draft as well.

The NBA wants to keep the age limit rule so that they don't have to scout high school players and it gives them a year to see how a player pans out in college before determining how they might be in the pros.  The NCAA is really powerless and is going to be beholded to whatever the NBA does.

And as for the UK President "showing concern."  He's saying the right things, but Joe-UK fan doesn't really care all that much.

They only need to pass classes for one semester....therefore there is no way Wall or Cousins went to class the second semester and likely took F's in all their classes.  To be honest, I wouldn't go either...whats the point.

Not all Calapari, he can't force future millionaires to attend classes.

Maybe Kentucky is just that tough a school.  This might help their chances to get into the Big Ten, now that they've shown that they refuse to go easy on athletes.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Yes, nobody can force a student to go to class, but most coaches are implicit that to play you need to go to class.  Cal is not one of those coaches.

Many coaches also make sure their players enroll in the lightest, easiest schedule possible (which makes low grad rates and GPAs all the more embarassing). I know that at Ohio State, for example, there are some majors and classes that star student-athletes are all but banned from taking.
