Says his assistants root for the old MU guys and had a lot to do in developing them.  Also complementary towards the new MU staff.

Tommy was just a fart in the wind.
Once again, you and PRN have blinders on.  TC did a lot for the MU program and he and his staff did a lot in recruiting and laying the development groundowrk for Rel, Wes, DJ, Zar, Mo and Cooby.  That you two did/do not like him personally is irrelevant.  Obviously, TC is pumping up the IU faihful in dark times by pointing to his past accomplishments.  What else is a guy to do.

Crean did 100x more for himself than he did for MU.

Wow, you don't give up.  do you..... ::)   Guess you would have rather have had "Days of Deane & Hester"...?

I was a huge fan of Krunti Hester. I remember being pretty upset when he followed Deane to Lamar.

Nobody likes him personally. He's one of the the most loathsome individuals I can think of in all of college or professional sports and it's a shame that he's associated with Marquette at all. What's even worse is that he's going to get his smarmy, phony ass fired in about a year or two then he'll come crawling back to Marquette trying to clean up his "legacy." I pray that everybody joins me in showering him with boos if he ever sets foot in the Bradley Center again...I don't care what the occasion is.

Literally, the only thing I give him credit for is Wade. Even that, I honestly believe was nothing but luck. His recruiting after Wade was atrocious. Only Matthews was a big time recruit and his game suffered under Crean because he was too busy coddling the monumentally overrated Dominic James.

muball

as someone stated previously, "Crean's legacy will not be what he accomplished as a coach but what he did PR wise for the Al and timing of the BEast"  I really wonder how much Dick Strong had to do with the success Crean/Cords/MU had in the building of the AL etc.  I really liked the way Cords worked at MU and his style and relationships with everyone, Class AA person

Another thread about our former coach?  What a surprise...!

He does take a lot of credit for the players. Kinda douchy, to steal a term from another thread.

Generally, I have to agree with you, except I know he did work very hard to get Steve Novak AND Brian Butch.  His best luck might have been coming in second on the second Rod Grosse.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

His wife might.  All those assistants that went to IU might.  Those former players that swear by him still might.  Etc, etc, etc.

Nice to know he still remembers those guys.

To be fair, he gave the credit to Buckley & Seltzer:

I have no axe to grind with Crean except the way he left our team.  He did a lot for MU.  That said, his tweets are more "toots" because it is easy to see that he is still connecting himself to the success of the players he recruited, and helped develop.    And his assistants did a ton to develop the players means TC was very good at picking coaches who can do that.  Clearly, they are self-serving tweets, but that is what he needs to do considering where he is at IU.  He needs people to believe. . .

Now . . . onto Marquette!  GO MU!

I issue a challenge.  Let's see how long the board can go without a Crean/Maymon thread or post.  I put the over under at 6 minutes.  ::)

I think it's great that Indiana strives to be more like Marquette.

Possibly not detested by his wife. There's a legacy worth aspiring to. Just what we all want on our tombstones.

PuertoRicanNightmare

You know, I just read this "tweet" and it's borderline offensive. Here is exactly what it says:

"Our coaches root for our old Marquette players in a big way. Tim Buckley and Bennie Seltzer had a ton to do with the development of guys Wes, Jerel McNeal, Dominic James and Lazar Hayward. Also Maurice Acker and David Cubilian learned a ton with those guys. High character Young men. The Marquette staff now continues to build on a great program and tradition. Thats what you want when you leave. Success and achievement. I hope it continues. Now we need to continue to find those kind of high achievers here. We are and we will."

There is so much wrong with this, I don't even know where to start. First of all, Wes, McNeal and Hayward both improved exponentially after those as*clowns left! Second of all, I do not care for the "I hope it continues" comment at all. It has continued. For two consecutive years. Indiana hoped their program wouldn't be blown out at home vs. Iowa and lose to the Terriers of Boston University. Lastly, is this supposed to be some kind of explanation of why he left (thank you, Jesus)?

This guy has absolutely no shame. I didn't think it was possible, but my absolute hatred of that guy is increasing!!

Worry about your own team, jerkoff!

"I hope it continues"

That is an a**clown statement.... what a tool

"I hope it continues" is the mantra of our most prolific poster. Could he be TC's "ghost tweeter"?

Could be worse, he could be tweeting about how he is all giddy about the premier of the "Real Housewives of New Jersey"...... oh wait, never mind.

I actually liked that one.  It showed he had a modicum of depth (even bad TV is a hobby) and could laugh at himself.  One of my biggest problems with the guy was he was so programmed, you never knew where he stood b/c he never said anything.  Him referencing a bad A&E show is actually refreshing.

"borderline offensive" Please. Tom Crean is beyond shameless. His messages are all the same - look at me, look how great I am, etc... This is well over the border. It is not just his "tweets" thatare offensive; He is offensive.

I am so glad he made the success of the past two years possible. I am so glad he made Wes the player he is today. I am so glad Buzz was able to build on the mountain of success Tommy established while at MU.
