I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Nothing would surprise me, including getting a pretty big name.  A lot of money, brand new building about to open up, recruiting possibilities in Bay Area and Los Angeles.  With the right coach, they could have a nice, consistent program, especially considering all the financial support.

punchystones

Mike Anderson turned them down, he is staying at Mizzou.  They will have to try somoneone else.

Not alot of big names left now.  You would have figured Oregon would have wanted to hire a coach before the signing period started on 4/14/2010.  Potential recruits and current players are in limbo.

A name that has some respect out here in the west that most people have never heard out of there is Tad Boyle.  He's the Northern Colorado coach and was an assistant at Oregon.  A name that wouldn't surprise me if he became Oregon's coach (or Colorado's).

MUBasketball

Oregon would be wise to promote assistant Mike Dunlap, IMO. Although, that doesn't satisfy the big name requirement that the Nike guys want.

Do you figure that Ernie Kent has to be medicated to stop from spending every day laughing his ass off?

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Naw, he's probably pissed.  "It's one thing to get caned for a 'big name', but for this."

Righto--ESPN notes:
"If the Ducks don't look toward a former NBA coach like Terry Porter or P.J. Carlesimo then former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried could be a serious player. According to sources, Gottfried has been in the discussion among Oregon officials. But there is a split among the Duck hierarchy as Kilkenny who wants to find a solid coach that might not have the star name while Nike officials want a headline name with a new arena opening next season.
Oregon is the highest-profile remaining open job."

Duck Football is messed up w/player problems, the BB job clearly isnt attractive enough for the big names--

why does a program (or Nike) obsess over big names and ignore proven "rising stars" who'd be great if simply blessed with great facilities, $, and fan support--to me that is the "fit" for this job--I agree will Kilkenny, here--and beleive a school, not Nike should have final say on a hire.

239 million for a new arena will do that.  Just like T Bone Pickens and his donations at Oklahoma State having a final say in coaching decisions, etc.  Sign of the times......

I love Terry Porter, but that would be a mistake!

Excellent analogy.
Its Ironic that Ncaa bars alumni fron contact in recruiting, and can require disassociation from a program for paying players etc...
but its A-ok for the moneybag  alums to control the coach hirings/ help on the pay sources and fund the buyouts.
Todays players have every right to question the "do as we say, and not as we do" hypocrisy of the NCAA, their coaches, and of these alums.

Mighty Ducks need a coach? Look no further-

Doug Butabi: So anyways, I was standing there waiting to use the pay phone.
Steve Butabi: Yeah, he was, seriously.
Doug Butabi: And this guy who was on the phone, turns around and tips his hat like this.
Steve Butabi: And who do you think that guy was?
Doug Butabi: Emilio Estevez.
Steve Butabi: The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God, I was there.
Doug Butabi: Of course you were, you were the one who yelled the Breakfast Clubber's name.
Steve Butabi: I was like, "Emilio!"
