In the post game Jay Williams said he was talking to Buzz during the game on the phone and he agreed with Buzz that the sky is the limit for him.

Also, did I hear the announcers of the game correctly when they said he is a "top student and senior class president?"  If so, icing on the cake!

I thought that was for Kaleb Clyburn but I could be wrong.

Dont get crazy this is an high school game...  What has he done in OT?

Its not about what hes done, as you said it is a high school game

It is about how he looks, how he projects. To me he looks like a player- Hes got great length, a nice body, a good looking stroke on his shot, and most importantly seems to be a "heady" player (there was a play in overtime where he was on the break with the lead and pulled up to give it to his pg). He also seems to drive and finish well, and doesnt seem afraid to take a big shot. Little lazy on defense, but when the effort is there he looks good

Buzz got on the phone with Jay Williams and says "When you get down there tomorrow please tell him that he does not know how good he is going to be yet. The kid has a sky of potential"

While watching Jamail this game I couldn't help but think of Manny Harris.

Manny Harris plus 20 lbs

strobl2

This is the best game I have seen him play so far. Usually he is much more of a perimeter player, settling for outside shots. This game he was 10x more aggresive and was driving to the basket and finishing. If he plays this aggresive all the time he could be very good.

Rated lower than Bell becuase Bell is going to Nova and Jones is only going to Marquette.

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

... that a lot of a players rating depends on where he goes to college.  For instance, anyone signed by Duke gets rated higher just because Duke signed them.  Same kid passes over Duke for MU, then he gets rated lower because MU is not as highly thought of as Duke.

So why is Jamil Jones' teammate Bell rated higher than Jamil?  Because Bell signed with 'nova and 'nova is thought to be a better program than MU.

The Man in Gold

Jamail rocking an MU backpack in the stands during game #2...always nice to get some subtle marketing.
Captain, We need more sweatervests!  TheManInGold has been blinded by the light (off the technicolor sweatervest)

Do we know if Jamail will actually play, sit, start, etc.? I mean Jay May and Erik were top 100 picks and never played. I know there was more to the Jay May than just sitting but is it even possible to tell wheather Jamail will be a factor in his first year because we all know how Buzz likes his experience (which I cannot blame).

Yeah... Any reason that Doc's boyz didn't even consider MU?

Doc's probably not enthused about going to Marquette games and running into Marc Marotta.....
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I wouldn't exactly call the 16.3 minutes a game that Maymon played (seventh on the team) "never played".

What's the story of Doc and Marotta? Bad blood?

Mrs. Rivers was formally Marc Marotta's steady girlfriend for a while before she and Doc hooked up.  Marc was rather pissed when he found out.

Sometimes the kids feel they have to live or exceed their parents legacy. That's why I heard he didn't consider MU but followed Crean at IU. Really woulda been sweet to see Doc in the crowd for some games.

Wow, I never knew that whole story about Doc and his then girlfriend, now wife. Does not put Marquette or Milwaukee in a good light.

Dawson Rental

Or San Antonio...

Thanks Henry Sugar, I especially like Doc's reaction to the San Antonio fire.  Guts and integrity.

GGGG

I know Milwaukee enough to not be surprised that stuff like that happened 25 years ago.  I also know Milwaukee enough that I would be extremely surprised if that happened today.

Norm

You're probably right Sultan. Just too bad that had to happen at all.

Also, from what i saw he was better than the Bell kid going to 'Nova who is rated higher than him.  Taller than Bell, longer than Bell, more skilled than Bell, and more athletic than Bell.  Rated lower than Bell becuase Bell is going to Nova and Jones is only going to Marquette.

For those that have not seen him picture Todd Townsend with skills.

It's one game, captain.

Bell had a better game then Jones yesterday so does that then justify his higher ranking? Or is it still because one of them is going to Villanova and one of them isn't?

The inferiority complex is always good for some laughs.

PGsHeroes32

i think Jones has more upside and potential if he continues to drive like he did today. His outside shot is definitly better than Bells. Right now, I can definitly see how Bell is rated higher, but Jones has the potential to blow by him.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

flash

I just finished watching the replay of the game on espn 360.  I really liked what I saw from Jones.  He has great body controll in the lane and can finish around the rim.  He showed excellent athletecism with his two dunks.  I also really liked how he made all of his freethrows.  He didn't shoot the ball that well from outside but the announcers were praising his 3 point abilities, so he must have just had an off shooting day.  I'm really excited to see him next year, and I think he will definatley be in the rotation next year, maybe 10-15 minutes per game.  Also, Austin Rivers looked awesome, too bad he is not coming to MU.

PGsHeroes32

yup warriors I agree with everything you said and i too have been impressed watching him make free throws the next 2 games. If you can make fts you can find PT at the college level. With his body and ability to drive that will be key, i can see him being a mix of wes and JB as he gets into his career.

And yes, Austin Rivers is a flat stud. I had never seen him before his 37 pt performance yesterday. that was in the midst of a rare 0-7 3pt shooting game. He can drive at will, as swift moves, can pass, is money at the line and can stroke from anywhere. He has some great moves.

he was a little cocky mouthing after an and 1 something like "they cant guard me". But I like it.

Attending a game with Marotta in a crowd of 15,000 is nothing compared to playing an enitre season with him on the same team (1983).

Blackhat

Jones looked pretty good.

Longer athlete than I expected, needs an attitude/fundamentals adjustment on D but has a ton of potential on offense.
