DJ Newbill scored 15 points for Strawberry Mansion in a gut wrenching 49-47 loss to South Fayette in the Pennsylvania AA state title game on Saturday.  Newbill hit a clutch three pointer to tie the game at 39 early in the fourth quarter and provided more heroics with a 15 foot jumper from the left elbow to knot the game at 47-47 with under a minute to play.  After a putback by South Fayette the boys from Mansion had one last chance to win or send the battle for the title to OT, but Newbill was bottled up and his teammates couldn't get the ball in his hands with the game on the line.

Newbill was the go to guy throughout the final period and South Fayette vigorously tried to deny him the ball each trip down the floor.  He should be a nice addition to Marquette's roster next year.  At 6'4 he has good size for a guard and more importantly possesses the ability to create his own shot, which he did with relative ease on the 15 foot jumper that tied the contest late at 47 apiece.  Newbill displays a knack for knocking down shots from various angles and seems to have a propensity for hitting timely baskets.  It looks like Buzz's second recruiting attempt in the state of Pennsylvania will be much more fruitful than the first one.

Thanks for the update/analysis.  I look forward to Vander and DJ going at each other in practice.  They should make each other better.  I'm not so certain Vander will be a much better player than Newbill.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

A disappointing Match for MU and MU recruits in the postseason:
MU loses by two to UW in NCAA
Vander and MM lose to Arrowhead in state finals
DJ and SW lose in state finals by two

Did Montverde bow out toonin the private school tourney?

Hey, Jae Crowder and Howard College won the NJCAA Title.  ;D

Monteverde is the #1 seed in the ESPN Rise Tourney.. on 4/1 at 1pm CT they take on Montrose Christian on ESPNU.  If they win, they'd play on 4/2 at 11am CT on 4/2...ESPN2, potentially against Winter Park / Austin Rivers.  A win there gets them a 4/3 game at 12:30pm on ESPN .. potentially against Findlay who they beat earlier this year (Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Nick Johnson (2011), Godwin Okonji who we have interest in)

Maybe this is a good sign when combined with some of the just-misses of our 2010 recruits.... Branden Dawson just lost 65-62 in overtime... he looked good (except for getting benched to start the game for being a bad boy, and rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter.. 22 points, about 10 boards)... Cody Zeller looked even better for Wallace's opponent, Washington... 20 points, 26 boards.  Fun game.

Reggie Murphy plays his championship game in a couple of hours in Cali...

Newbill will fit right in.  His team seeme to enjoy playing mostly every game close.
