With only 16 coaches still working today (Monday), should we expect the coaching coursel to begin in earnest this week?  Some of the schools looking for coaches are Iowa, DePaul, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Auburn and Charlotte, Central Florida and Oregon.

What are your predictions?

Do you expect the turnover among current head coaches to be more or less than previous years?

Or do you expect a lot of these positions to be filled by assistants?

Do you expect "dominions" to occur this year like 2003 was suppose to be (when Williams went to NC, Self went to KU and then Crean was suppose got to IL and then Pearl was suppose to MU)?

Finally, do you expect Buzz's name to be in the mix this year (not will he leave ... rather, will his name be part of any conversation)?

I would like to know if there are any good big men who will be freed up either as a transfer or as a 2010 committment release and if Buzz has any hope of getting them.

The only way I could see Buzz's name getting thrown out there is if Scott Drew would be interested in one of the midwest jobs (Iowa or DePaul), and then Baylor would have to find a new coach.  But I highly doubt either of those things would take place, so I guess my answer is no.

So, is DePaul's coaching selection still in the Tourney or did he get bounced out this weekend?

I buy Tubby to Auburn. It seems to make sense.

Then I think a domino will fall at UNI, and Jacobsen will take the MN job over the Iowa job.  I think he sees what has happened at Iowa lately as a cautionary tale and would rather recruit to Minnesota following Tubby than try to pick Iowa up off the turf.

As for DePaul, I was thinking about Chris Mack until he got uber pissed this weekend about Xavier being qualified as a mid major.  That seemed a bit heated for a guy that might be hedging toward another job.  I'm really not sure where all those lower tier BEast teams look.

Jamil Wilson at Oregon?

Its gonna be interesting, no real blue chips jobs but a lot of spots open in power conferences.  I think st. johns is actually going to land Bob knight.  he supposidly wants to come back, and the tradition of St.  Johns, coupled with their desperation to remain relevant, will be too enticing for knight to pass up.  I don't know who seton hall is going to hire, but if they're smart, they will make a serious run at Bobby Hurley, head coach of St.  patricks high school in new Jersey.  Would give them an instant pipeline into the big three in NJ, and would be the type of hire seton hall needs to lure some of those top tier New Jersey recruits.  Iowa I think will have to settle for Jacobsen in Northern Iowa, which really isn't settling by any stretch, but for some reason Iowa thinks they can get someone a lot more well known than anyone else in the nation thinks they can get.  depaul is a real crap shoot.  I don't think they are going to be able to attract anyone big, but at the same time, I really think depaul will break the bank for a major coach.  This is the one hire I have absolutely no clue on.

Unless Tubby, or Mrs. Tubby, really doesn't like Minnesota, I cannot fathom why he would go to Auburn.  That is a crappy basketball program.

You think Bob Knight wants to coach in New York?  He seems really happy on ESPN and he is probably well paid.  I have no insights either way, it just surprises me to hear his name for that job.  He is just pretty old to take on the New York media.

But they just dropped a ton of cash on a new facility and supposedly Tubby feels he doesn't have the support of the Univ when it came to some of his recruits.  And maybe he wants the chance to beat UK.

Its a name, along with jeff van gundys, that has been thrown around alot here.  people in the know say he really wants to get back into coaching.  The new york media won't bother bob knight, he's dealt with scrutinizing media for a long time.

Theres a few reasons why the university didn't support some of his recruits.  They're listed in various police blotters around the country.

I agree with you.  I was just trying to point out a factor to Tubby wanting to leave.

Maybe St Paul Warrior or Jay Bee can enlighten us as to the skuttlebutt on KWFB* (can't remember the sportstalk channel from the cities).

Does Tubby take Mbakwe to Auburn with him?

He's stop 2 after they swing by Royce White's club promotions office.

Interesting.  How bad would it look if Tubby goes to Auburn?  That would be two jobs in which he left because he felt the administration/fans didn't support him.  He would look like a cry baby.  He would have to stay at Auburn for a long time wouldn't he?

Is any sec coaching job other then kentucky and florida really that appealing?

There seems to be a lot of money to be thrown around to coaches in the SEC, and that in itself can be appealing.

I think that when youre looking at a guy like Tubby, you can't view Auburn (or maybe any other SEC job) in comparison with other jobs. I think that he has a preference to go back there, given his history and recruiting ability.  There are still pockets of pro-Tubby sentiment, and the Tubby haters have cooled with UK's recent success.  So its kind of like when we mention Buzz for Texas or other regional jobs.  Our fears aren't based on objective qualitative program value, but out of personal nuances.  The comparisons of Auburn vs. MN or even St Johns or Iowa or anything else aren't as relevant, because they don't serve the same personal ends and preferences that a SEC job does.  Add to that Auburn's new investment into their program, and I think this provides a nice up and coming opportunity for a guy who has an inclination to go back to the region anyway.
