Decent player, but guard play hasn't been our problem since the days of Marcus Jackson running the point.

Looks like Lucious needs the lusciousness to last because Lucas is likely lost.

Then the question begs to be asked; Why haven't we progressed farther in March if it's a guard's game?

Did we even make it to March when Marcus Jackson was running the point?

Doesn't matter. If you don't have the bigs to rebound, get some putbacks, clog the middle or alter shots, you make a quick exist in the Tourney. See MU circa, 2007, 08, 09, & 10 and a whole host of other teams.

How does it not matter? Do you even get to the tourney if you have poor guard play?

What I'm saying is in order to have a chance to be a contender and not a pretender for the championship, get some studs. Check out this year's FF teams or any other year, if you're not convinced.

Wow, you are observant...the top 4 teams in the tournament are solid at every position. Who would have thought?!?!? That doesnt change the fact that it is still a "guards game." Every time you make a stupid little comment about it, you are showing how foolish you truly are.

Last night Kansas, who has one of the best bigs in the country, and 2 very good PFs in the Morris twins, lost to UNI. Those 3 had pretty solid games.  So why did they lose? Because their guards played so poorly.

If you dont have good guard play, you dont have a chance.  Why is that so hard for you to realize that? Watching Marcus Jackson, or this year's UNC squad should should make you understand.

Hell...look at Georgia Tech. They have 2 bigs that are going to be lottery picks. Why did they struggle so much in the ACC? Why arent they advancing in the tournament?

4everwarriors

And UNI's center is chopped liver? We could go on ad nauseum with examples. Suffice it to say, we will continue to disagree.

Why hasn't Georgetown progressed farther if it's a Bigs game.....   ;)

Lots of factors involved here with Georgetown. Obvious classic example of underachievers. If JT III could unlock the enigma of Monroe.... Weren't they just in the FF 3 years ago?

Because Shumpert, the be all to end all for Tom Crean, sucks balls. Happy now? ;D

And Wisconsin with all their bigs?  North Carolina this year?  UCONN the last 3 years?  On and on and on with examples all over the place.

You need both, but it's harder to get bigs then guards.  Pretty simple.

According to you, that shouldnt matter, they have 2 lottery picks down low

Hey, sometimes "items occur." How many of this year's FF teams will show up in Indy, sans bigs?

MSU is still in.   They get about 15 minutes a game from anybody over 6'8.   Washington has one guy over 6'8 who contributes, they are doing OK. How tall are the Syracuse bigs?   WVU's? Gonzaga has more 7 footers than Wiscy and they went home today.    And how many teams in the sweet 16 are doing it without guards who control the ball?

I know what you're trying to say but, man, just one or two of those kids from that UNC team and we'd be going bonkers - in a good way!

At the beginning of the season, if we traded UNC's team for MU's team, I think people would have been really excited. Had they struggled similarly, we would've placed most of the blame squarely on Buzz's (and the staff's) shoulders.

Funny how no one is really blaming Roy Williams...rather the departures to the NBA.

Golly, I guess that's why they call it a TEAM sport:  without Jackson and Meritt (and Shaq later), Wade wan't nearly as effective, now was he? Stop the silliness.  Please.

Okay, it seems everyone is hung up on "guards game" or "bigs game."  I submit you can't cosistently win without balance (duh).

I think what is obvious, is that IF you put ONE above average big on our team this year, we would be much better (Sweet 16 for sure and likely further).

I don't want a team of all top notch bigs and no one to get the ball across half court, but neither is a team that has guards to bring it up and shoot the three and penetrate consistently better than a team with a team that has guards that can do all of that AND an above average big man.

I think the point that is being made by so many is, we don't necessarily need a McD AA big, but a guy who takes up space, can get a hand up in someone's face, get some offensive rebounds and put backs.  This would get us beyond the first weekend.

Love all the guys on this team of ours, but would we not give up one of them for a big that can do some of those things?  I know there are only so many out there, but I saw a lot of teams in the tourney this weekend - many of them not as successful as us, that had a guy or two who could fill that role.

Every final 4 team will have "good" players at every position, as well as a couple of talented role players off of the bench. Groundbreaking stuff, right??  ::)

It doesn't have anything to do with basketball being a "guards game" or a "big man's game". It has to do with talent and skill sets.

Having 5 awesome centers in the starting line-up wouldn't win a final 4, and neither would 5 awesome guards.

Give it a rest.

Big is not a specific height.  Big is a state of mind.

No. Iowa's guards still cannot break a press.

Does good guard-play mean low turnovers, scoring, assists or do you just know the team who had better guards, or at least whose guards 'played better', because that team won?
