How are refs chosen for games? I thought they were affiliated with a specific conference, but Tim Higgins is doing the UW/MSU game tonight.

Officials are assigned by the conferences, but many of the officials are in the pools of multiple conferences. Some even go up and down levels (DI, DII and DIII).

I know Higgins does Big East, Big Ten and maybe CUSA too. But they generally do a couple conferences.
