Was just looking over RPI numbers and records to try to figure out what MU's seed potential may be. Based on what I expect to happen independent of what MU does for the moment, I have come up with a list of 10 teams that almost certainly will be seeded ahead of MU, and 4 others that are likely to be ahead of us.

In no particular order...

1. UCLA
2. Florida
3. OSU
4. Wisconsin
5. Georgetown
6. UNC
7. Kansas
8. Texas A&M
9. Memphis
10. Pittsburgh

Likely to be higher...

1. Butler
2. Nevada
3. Air Force
4. SIU

(Washington State not on the list because I expect them to drop a few down the stretch)

After that it becomes a huge mass of fairly interchangeable parts. I struggle to find anyone I would automatically say with any degree confidence will be seeded higher than us. It obviously depends how everyone finishes the rest of the way, but if we win our final two (which I think we will), don't we still have 4 seed potential? Maybe even a 3 if we end up playing on Saturday in the BE tournament?

Who's missing from the lists above? Am I crazy? Are we doomed to that 7-10 seed range?

We're not doomed.  Right now Marquette's average seed is a 5.  Win a couple more and we'll be back up to a 4.  Actually, if they selected today, I think we would be a 4 (we were a pretty unanimous #16 before the win...so....).

So..take care of business, and we're good.  Winning one of the next two may even be good enough.  It'd be nice to get a bye in the BET at get at least one there too for insurance...

I don't think there's ANY way we get down to / below a 7 seed at this point.

Here's the bracket project website that compares seeds (it's linked in the menu on the site too)

I think we can be seeded anywhere from a 2 to an 11.  Best case scenario is we win out.  That would give us another top 25 road win and at least an additional 2-4 top 25 wins.  Worst case scenario is we lose our next 3 games and limp into the big dance.  I personally think we are going to get the dreaded 5-12 matchup.

Harrison

I agree anywhere from a 2 to a 11, maybe not an 11, probably no worse than a 9 at this point.   Actually  we could beat ND and Pitt and get a win or more in the BE and be a 3-4.   But my guess is 1-2 more wins tota and be somewhere like 5-6.  MU can handle 11 or 12 seeds if they do what we all know they need to do. Then you play a 4 seed.  Win that and go battle a 1.

Big Papi

Your right an 11 would be extremely doubtful.  I orginally had 10 but overcompensated for the worst case scenario of 4-6 record in our last 10 while losing 6 out of our last 7.  The rodents struggled badly last year down the stretch and I think they had an 8 seed.  We do have some big wins and road wins at that.  Futhermore, we have one of the more tougher conference schedules when compared to everyone else in the big east.

I cant imagine us having less than an 8 seed.  I think between 3 and 8 is about right depending on the next 2 games go and the BE tournament.

This season, I think a 6 seed or better is paramount for us to have a good shot at the sweet 16.  To me, I don't want to see the following teams (in no particular order) in the tournament for as long as possible:

Wisconsin
Ohio State
UNC
Kansas
Texas A&M
Florida
UCLA

I don't want to see Georgetown again, either.  If we are a 7 or worse, it is extremely likely we'll have to play one of these teams to advance to the sweet 16, since they will all almost certainly be 1s or 2s.  So lets hope we do whatever we have to do to get a 6 or better (I think two more wins including the BE tournament ought to cement a better than 7 seeding).

Collegerpi has us as a 5th seed prior to last night's win.

Out of all the teams you just listed I would gladly take my chances again with the rodents.  We had a lot of open looks that we just missed when we played them.  With Fitz, Hayward and Cubillan now hitting some of those outside shots, I think we have a decent chance of beating them.  The others on your list would be extremely difficult to beat at least in my opinion.

CTWarrior

They wouldn't put us with Wisconsin on the same side of the bracket since we played each other during the season.  But I think I agree that of that group, UW (and maybe Texas A&M) would be the team we'd stand the best chance against.
