I have been told there will be a multicast channel, on which an alternate game will be available. Does anyone know what channel this will be?

jaybilaswho?

this cannot be true.

everything about TWC sucks. This would be too cool for them and the chances of something like this happening smoothly by TWC... well, not so good.

In years past, Milwaukee has been one of the 20 or so markets to do this (there are 210 markets in this country for television).  My guess is that they ARE doing it.

Just found it. They WILL be doing this

WDJT-TV (Channel 58) on Tuesday released the preliminary schedule of NCAA men's basketball games set to air on Channel 58 and on its multicast digital tier in the Milwaukee market.

The final schedule of games will be announced on Wednesday, along with the preliminary schedule for Friday's telecasts.

Channel 58, the CBS affiliate in the Milwaukee market, will telecast Old Dominion vs. Notre Dame at 11:25 a.m., followed by North Texas vs. Kansas State, with tip-off at 1:40 p.m. The evening games are Washington vs. Marquette at 6:20 p.m., followed by Lehigh vs. Kansas with tip-off at 8:30 p.m.

The multicast games are Florida vs. BYU at 11:20 a.m., followed by Murray State vs. Vanderbilt, 1:30 p.m. tip-off, followed by UTEP vs. Butler at 3:45 p.m. The evening games are Ohio vs. Georgetown at 6:25 p.m. followed by Wake Forest vs. Texas, 8:35 p.m.

All of the games on Channel 58 are in high def. Channel 58 is 58.1 on over the air, 1005 on Time Warner, 605 on Charter, 58 on DirecTV, 58 on Dish and 1005 on AT&T U-Verse.

None of the multicast games are in high def. Those games are on over the air on This GDJT 58.3. Also, they will appear on 983 on Time Warner and 970 on Charter.

I can't find it, but I saw a commercial for it .. it's like channel 983 or 982 or somewhere around there.  Doubt that 2nd feed will be HD, though.

And actually, the multicast on Time Warner has been spectacular over the past 4-5 years.  Up until last year, they'd show all 4 feeds on 4 channels, and it was awesome.

I'm sure Chicos read that and told his DirecTV police squad to put the kybosh on that, of course.

Nope, they are allowed legally to do it.  As I said, 20 or so markets can do so, Milwaukee just happens to be one.

Any idea why they no longer do 4 streams, only 2?

No way their Shamwow infomercial sub-channel is really bringing in eyeballs.

Is this something Milwaukee was grandfathered into, or in other words why can't all markets show the multicast?

The last year they did 4, they had "broken" up one HD channel to feed 4 SD feeds through it.  The picture quality sucked and there was NO HD basketball except when MU and UW were playing.

I presume it has something to do with this.

That said, 2 games on TV, a third on MMOD and you're doing pretty solid.

Or if your family has 2 laptops, 2 on mmod. Add covering the other scores on the tv so it doesn't update before you see it, and you have your own homemade sports bar

I swear last year was the same as this year .. 2 streams on the local CBS 58 channels.  Anyone with a tie-breaking vote?

It's actually not a grandfathering situation.  It's a deal that CBS allows with their affiliates and what they can work out with their local operators.  Atlanta, Raleigh, Phoenix and Lexington, KY are two other markets that do it for sure.  I have last year's list, but not this year.

As for how many games everyone is doing, each channel basically has a cap of how much bandwidth they can allocate.  If they have already divided up that spectrum to use for other purposes (subchannels) then it's likely they aren't going to turn those off temporarily just for some hoops, but you never know.

They did 2 last year as well.

FYI, I'll have the two feeds on 2 TV's, plus a laptop hooked up to a third, and my Mac Mini and monitor to a 4th, my living room truly will be a sports bar!

I'm going the same route, except two laptops. Should be a good four day weekend! How perfect is it that my college spring break starts tomorrow?
