Golden Eagles Arrive In San Jose To Continue NCAA Championship Preparations

The first wave of the Marquette men's basketball travel party arrived in San Jose Monday evening in advance of the team's matchup with Washington Thursday evening in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

I'm not bored...seriously, I'm not...but I was aware the team left earlier this evening and grew disinterested in watching SHU get blown out, so I checked...

Team just arrived in San Jose.

Did you just wake up, dude? The Warriors arrived last night about 10 p.m.

Today is Tuesday, is it not?  There are no scheduled flights between Milwaukee and San Jose, so this was them.

I don't think they are flying commercial.

Umm...scroll up - they've been there all day, and even had a practice today.  Scroll through the topics and look for the "GoMarquetteSays" stuff...

From the article linked above (which hit the board around 1am today)...

QuoteTeam personnel and support staff arrived at the squad's headquarters for the week around 10 p.m. local time. The charter flight went without incident, but did include a quick stop in Lincoln, Neb., to add the necessary fuel to make it to San Jose.

Check out the caption on the photo - anyone know why they stopped in Lincoln, NE en route to San Jose?

Oldgym

No, they don't fly commercial.  That flight was a charter.  Two planes?  One yesterday, one this evening?

QuoteCan't make out the tail number, but this is the one to check...

Interesting.  So the band and support fly nonstop and the team has to stop for gas?  Hope they at least got Yous an exit row.

But do they fly a CHARTERED plane?

I don't think so. The team had EXTRA comfy seats...I think the band flew coach.

There's a MU sticker on the bulhead so it must be a charter and i hope they stopped for jet fuel. nothing else in Omaha to stop for

karavotsos

Charter.  And from the picture, it doesn't exactly look like they're flying the Indian Express.  On Mac's blog he rips on DePaul for still flying commercial.

http://www.espnmilwaukee.com/blogs/jim.php  (You have to scroll all the way to the bottom to the last paragraph of the Jack Cooley article.)

He goes more in depth on an interview on Homer's show, saying essentially no Big Six conference team should have to fly commercial.  Apparently Majerus complained about flying commercial at SLU until he got them to pony up for chartered flights.

Maybe they needed to pick up some pocket change from Buffet?

Looked the team plane was a regional jet with wider seats, doesn't have the range to fly to SJ non-stop, 2nd plane was likley a 737 or the like which does have the range.
