Unpaid tribute! This invoice remains outstanding. Crean made a big splash in announcing this selfless act of generosity. Interestingly enugh, he has yet to schedule a presser to explain why he has not made good on this very public commitment. The guy is disgusting.

Not the point.  The point was that people complained the day after it was announced.

Complained, or pointed out the ridiculous of calling what I believe was termed a "major news conference."

My God....THANK YOU FOR GIVING HIM THE INDIANA JOB!!!!

Ummm .... what part of the first five words don't you understand? ....

Congratulations to everyone at Marquette. 5 straight NCAA tournaments and some people thought the Big East was a reach when we entered.

Please spare us the pointy headed parsing.  He congratulated us for making the tourney.  Leave it at that.

Ummm...what part of the rest of that sentence don't you understand.  This is what the man does.  It was extremely effective while he was at MU, and he continues in that manner at IU.  He congratulated MU for making the tourney five years in a row.

How about in the Lenten season, we try for a little forgiveness and letting go of old grudges?

Amen. We play as a 6 seed in the NCAA tournament this week. If I told you that at the beginning of the season you wouldn't have believed me. It is not immodest to say that Marquette has a lot to be proud of, and its easy for people (even TC) to see.

So I guess there is no update then on the soccer complex.  I ask because when you commit to a project like this you often don't have to make the payment until the ground has broken, etc.  Has ground been broken?  Has the project been started?  I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

You could have been more specific. In fact, it was Tom Crean's ego hitting the floor in Bloomington after not getting invited to the Tournament. Tremors were felt as far away as Brazil.

HAHAHAHA - good one!!!

There hasn't been any groundbreaking thus far.  It almost sounds like the project is still on the table but has been put on hold due to inability to raise enough funds.  If anyone has more specific details, please share.  I've been wondering what's going on, as well.

Everyone is counting on Tommy to pony up, then, as soon as the first shovel is thrown.

Talked to a guy about a year ago who said we haven't gotten there yet, didn't even sound like we were close despite that one donor and Crean.

The "stadium" was going to look something like this with European style overhang.

That's what I thought, thank you for clarifying.  So the notion that he hasn't paid, then, is probably horse feathers.  Often, when someone has committed to these types of things they don't actually write the check until the project is shovel ready and they're ready to go, or at least imminent.  Otherwise you're just pissing away your money while it sits idle.

There was at least one gift of $1 million for this complex as well.  Has that money been paid yet or just "committed" as well?

Shack

The fact that we're all still talking about him proves that he had a pretty big impact on Marquette basketball.  What did Oscar Wilde say.."The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about"  Love him or hate the Tan One is still relevant.  And that will serve him well.

Dry White Toast

How much effort and thought have been spent "analyzing" or commenting on one tweet that was less than 140 letters...by someone who may or may not be TC.  The irony is palpable.

Of course, this thread started because he's still talking about Marquette.

However, you bring up the precise reason his association with Marquette makes me want to puke. I would give back our 2003 Final Four appearance to be rid of his association with Marquette. I am 100 percent serious. Having his name connected to Marquette basketball cheapens our proud tradition. His personality, actions, appearance, social climbing, etc. are the complete opposite of everything Marquette basketball is about. He's a total fake.

For 50 years, Marquette basketball has always been about genuine characters. Even Dukiet was a better person...by leaps and bounds.

So the whore former HC cheated on us was no prize.  No reason to give up the kids.   Maybe for 9 years Marquette basketball leadership wasn't about genuine character but it is now.  The final four appearance is nice but the 100% graduation rate is much better.  Without TC there is no Buzz.  With Buzz at the helm I really like Marquette's future.

Warriors4ever

Good lord.  If we're this upset about a stupid tweet, how upset would we be if we made it to the championship game and he came and sat with our fans - as Roy Williams did when Kansas won a couple of years ago.

The natives are getting a little restless in Hoosier land, I thought it was bizarre he used the word "we"....    and I do view it as a tad bit self serving.  Congratulating MU would have been enough...  but he had to pat himself on the back in the process.
I have to believe this sentiment is very widespread in Hoosier Land. Crean's mile wide inch deep approach to life will always be revealed. A "tad bit self-serving?" There is nothing tad about it - Tommy Crean is all about Tommy Crean. The man is repulsive. Ask Wes or Lazar for their opinion of the guy.

I disagree. The point is that Tommy Crean made a big deal about this commitment but has yet to put his money where his mouth is. If he is sincere about this I don't understand why he has not yet cut a check to Marquette. The first spade hitting dirt has nothing to do with Crean's commitment. The man is a fraud.

Don't love him, just appreciative of all he did for Marquette.

For more on the evilness of TC you should read Michael Hunt's article today on Julian Schwartz

Great article on Swartz.  I think people would have to respect what Crean did for the guy.

Swartz's dunk against LSU at the end of the first half in the NCAA tourney when Bennett's UW team made it to the Final 4 has to be one of my most memorable tournament moments--and I hate UW.

I was over Crean the day he left.  Always hated his offensive sets.  But remember this.  He is part of that self promoter coach that we now see everywhere.  Going on twitter is indeed a promotion, aimed at 18 Yr olds wearing size 13's. Crean can't coach, but he knows how to play the game.  Pay attention Buzz.
