QuoteCongratulations to everyone at Marquette. 5 straight NCAA tournaments and some people thought the Big East was a reach when we entered.

Quote7 of the last 9 years in the Tournament. All of you back there deserve it.

No superlatives about Buzz or the rest of the "family" - Zar, Cooby, and Mo?

That's pretty nice of him actually.  Whether any of us likes it or not, he did recruit these seniors, all of whom we would be lost without.

Maybe my thoughts are slanted because I hate the way the man left MU, but to me it seems like he's still promoting what he did at MU.  Probably not a bad idea on his part the way IU is playing.

"5 straight NCAA tournaments...Big East was a reach when we entered" = I can rebuild a program.

"7 of the last 9 years in the tourney" = I can consistently take a team to the NCAA tourney.

I would have liked to have seen a big Congrats to Buzz and the MU players for playing so well after losing the big 3.

LenBiasWindSprints

You might as well ask the Pope to renounce God. Tom Crean is going to put himself in the lime light. Any congrats to others deflects from the glory he craves. The French subtitle at the bottom of the screen reads, "Marquette is in the NCAA tournament for the 5th Straight Year because of me. This is what I will do for II, II. Be patient."

The fact he had nothing to say to his three seniors is mind boggling. Crean is despicable.

Coleman

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't interpret it that way.

He said congratulations to everyone. Does he take credit for some of it? Probably

4 of the 5 years WERE his doing. This year is all Buzz.

At the end of the day, who really cares what Tom Crean tweets.

mr.MUskie

Playing devil's advocate here...  maybe he made a personal call/text to them?

g0ldmember42

also, at most Crean only gets credit for recruiting 2 of our seniors... Mo was recruited by McNeal

nycwarrior

It's just a tweet, not a blog or essay. By definition, it's short and to-the-point.

Regardless of one's personal feelings for Crean it's entirely appropriate for him to wish his former team well.

Even the his admitedly self-serving reference to 5 straight and 7 of the last 9 NCAAs helps to combat the perception of mid-majorish inconsistency that the program once suffered.

The more people who believe that Marquette is now a stable, consistently NCAA quality, competitive Big East program, the better.

You guys can continue to debate just how much TC did to create that stability.

The man congratulated the team and wished them well in a public forum and some people are ticked about it.   Holy irrational, batman.

Crean is "tweeting" about himself, not Marquette.

In this Lenten season, let us all drop to our knees every night and thank sweet Jesus that he's gone. It is so much nicer around here without him. As Buzz has said since day one, "It's about the players." And so it has been.

He has 140 characters to say something, this is not war & peace.  Further 90% of his audience is IU fans.  Congrats Buzz and the seniors is too much "inside baseball" for that crowd.

He said something nice about MU.  Say thank you and leave it at that.

If you're still mad a Crean, take your satification that his team completley sucks and he realoding with a bunch of three-star recruits.

Canned Goods n Ammo

I think it's fine.

Let's face it, the guy is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

If he didn't say anything, there would be people lining him up to blast him for not saying anything about the kids he recruited and coached. ("It would be nice if Crean actually said something nice about the seniors!!"... (blah blah blah)

If he says congrats via twitter, it's immediately interpreted as "self-serving".

He's a polarizing figure for most MU fans. If you like him, you assume the best. If you hate him, you assume the worst.

It's just like the former and current president. It rarely has anything to do with him, but rather which side of the aisle you sit on.

4everwarriors

He should just mind his own business and disappear. But then again, he has nothing to do this time of year but attempt to keep his name out there.

I couldn't agree more. He congratulated us on making the tourney. Take it at face value and move on.

Niv Berkowitz

Can we over-emphasize certain words and parse that statement out? Sure we can. Was there a tinge of self-serving there? Yeah, but anything anyone does has a little of that if you look hard enough.

I'm glad that he did that. He didn't have to. And others are right. It's mostly IU people that read that. People (me) may still be upset how he left, but he holds no animosity toward the school...and he's right in what he tweeted too. A lot of people didn't think we belonged in the Big East.

How about in the Lenten season, we try for a little forgiveness and letting go of old grudges?

It's not a grudge and there's nothing to forgive. I don't like him.

TallTitan34

It's nice he spoke well of Marquette but he could have chosen his words a little better.  I have no problem with it but I can see how it seems self serving.

He makes two seperate texts patting himself on the back for his time here.  He doesn't just congratulate MU on this season but rather the last 5 years in one text and then then last 9 in another.

Ummm .... what part of the first five words don't you understand? ....

Congratulations to everyone at Marquette. 5 straight NCAA tournaments and some people thought the Big East was a reach when we entered.

Please spare us the pointy headed parsing.  He congratulated us for making the tourney.  Leave it at that.

Seems to me that "Congratulations to everyone at Marquette" would equal congratulating the team.  The part about everyone at Marquette deserving the 7 of 9 years in the tourney is wishing us well.  I still don't like the way he left, but let it go.  It will be good for your health.

DJO's Pump Fake

1) Is this the real Tom Crean Twitter, or the fake one?

2) Anyone who doesn't see through this recruiting ploy is naive.  You know hes trying to pump himself up as he heads out on the recruiting trail early, versus relevant basketball programs who are in the beginning of post-season play.

ChicosBailBonds

We had a 4.4 earthquake hit this morning at about 4am.  I was awake writing notes for the upcoming day when it struck.  The kids (rooms are upstairs) were scared so I got them and brought them down to bed with us

My daughter asked why it happened.  Now, being the son of a geologist and a geophysicist, I could have gone into all the stuff about platetonics and such.  Instead, I gave her the obvious answer.  Tom Crean was to blame

The natives are getting a little restless in Hoosier land, I thought it was bizarre he used the word "we"....    and I do view it as a tad bit self serving.  Congratulating MU would have been enough...  but he had to pat himself on the back in the process.

Me personally...   I am not impressed at all with him, and I think IU may be in for a very long run of being incredibly "average"..   :(

Hope I'm wrong but he just is not a very good coach.  He needs "big time talent" to win.

Congrats and good luck MU....   I have always been a closet MU fan, since the days of old Al....   he is my second favorite coach of all time, right after RMK.....   ;D
