I was running an errand and listening to ESPN radio.  They interviewed Virginia Tech Head Coach Seth Greenberg about getting passed over.

He said he wasn't going to whine and then proceeded to whine.

He was making the case was they had more quality wins than they were given credit for.  He cited winning at NC State as a quality win.  He noted how hard it is to win their.  He then said something to the effect of "NC State beat MU in Milwaukee and we beat them on their home court and MU is going to the tournament and we are not."

By this logic, DePaul should be in the tournament.

Eye

I can't pass up taking a shot back at Seth ...

Wasn't this the same guy we heard about pretty much every year back in our C-USA days about being the next big thing, and yet they never won a tournament game?

Isn't this the same guy who as coach of an ACC team said "If you're on the bubble for the NCAA tournament, that's a pretty good year?"

Isn't this the same guy who agreed to a non-league schedule this season that included such stalwarts as NC-Greensboro, Campbell, VMI, Charleston Southern, Maryland-Baltimore County, Longwood and NC-Central? I liked Bilas' comment today that the goal of the committee shouldn't be to send signals, that they should just be responsible for selecting the best 34 teams, but it couldn't happen to a bigger fraud in the big picture than Seth Greenberg.
GO WARRIORS!

Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

I was laughing hysterically when I heard that comment earlier.

VaTech had a non-conference SOS of 339.  Their best win out of league was Seton Hall. The next best team they even PLAYED based on the RPI? Georgia with an RPI of 103.  They lost TWICE to Miami (12th in the ACC), lost at Boston College by 20, and 5 of their 10 conference wins came against Virginia, NC State, and UNC.

Hey Seth...want to make the tournament?  Play someone. And beat them.
The General has taken on a new command.

we lost to NC ST in early December. This team has started to close games and find its character in late January.

You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

I heard the interview in its entirety and Seth never said "Marquette is going to the tourney and we're not". Yes, he did mention NC State beating MU at our place, but he referred to it in order to try to point out the strength and depth of the ACC because they went 10-6 in it.

Seth Greenberg is the biggest whiner in the ACC. He is both universally disliked and the least respected opposing coach by virtually every other ACC school's fanbase.

The ACC schools don't take him seriously; we shouldn't either.

pbiflyer

But he did have one of the best quotes ever.
After Marquette thrashing his USF team 78-39, holding them to 0-18 3 point shooting:
"Some days you're the dog, some days, you're the tree. Today, we were the tree."

Sounds like another tree day there for ya Seth.

You'd think after two years of being shut out of the tournament, VT would figure something out and actually go play somebody.

You are correct.

I did not say he said that.  I said he said "something to the effect of"

If you heard it, then you know he was diminishing MU be saying we lost to NC State at home.  At the same time he was using our loss as an example of why it was a quality win for VT to beat NC State at NC State.  The implication was we got in and they did not.

You are probably correct about his exact words.  But I still believe the impression I described is what most people were left with.

My impression of it was the same the Thong described.  He was just using an example to pump his team up.

The implication was that Marquette is a solid Tournament team, yet they couldn't beat NC State at home, while VT, a team left out, was able to beat NC State on the road. He never implied that his team should have made it in over MU.
