check the facts...

UW = 855 FTA and 622 FTM
Marquette = 645 FTA and 477 FTM
WOW!! That is a ton of free throw attempts.  They must call it real tight in the Pac 10??  MU is a very disciplined team from a fouling perspective..they'd rather a team shoot 60% from the field than get to the Free throw line more than them.  MU wins the free throw attempts battle in 85% of the games it's played this year.  For UW, you probably should hope for a tightly called game, as MU is not going to allow you to get to the free throw line consistently..unless the officiating is far more ridiculously tight than in the Big East.

Hopefully we get BEAST refs, and not PAC10 refs......
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

When you have DePaul, Providence, Rutgers, St. Johns, etc. fouling you to stay in the game, you can see why the numbers are skewed to MU.

But like I said (and you posted), Thomas WILL create the "and 1" situation.

Fixed...

it can go both ways...

Maybe the pac10 calls games much closer but your orginal arguement that the data is scewed because teams like UCLA or WSU is wrong...

We take a ton of free throws because our offense is basically attacking the rim and getting offensive rebounds. We aren't a jumpshooting team at all. We score over 80% of our points on two-pointers and free throws. It's basically an offense where as soon as we get the ball, we are sprinting down the court as fast as we can. If there's a shot early, we take it. If there isn't a shot, we will pull it out and run our half-court motion offense, which isn't that effective. One of our biggest strength is our offensive rebounding. We treat offensive rebounding as an extension of our offense. We aren't nearly as good as last year when we had Brockman down low (3rd in the country in Offensive Rbd%), but we are still formidable. We rebound 37.1% of our misses which ranks 35th in the country.

ALL (but one) of UW's losses were AWAY. If UW fans show up en masse, it can be a home game for UW, much like Stanford's was in 2007.

Since I live out here, I see a ton of Pac Ten games.  Isaiah Thomas is really really good for his class and size (sophomore).  Love that kid.  He and Acker will look eye to eye as they are both 5'8".

They have a chip on their shoulder because of how bad the Pac Ten has been portrayed this year.

I saw them play out here in Anaheim against Georgetown and the Hoyas won that game by about 10, but they are playing much better than that now.  Pondexter was really good that game, scored 20+ as did Thomas.  No one else did anything, but that has changed.  They are more balanced at this point.

They've won a ton of games in a row.  This is going to be a tough game, as are all NCAA games if you're not a 1, 2 or 3 seed.

Just not Jim Burr.

Here's a stat for ya, purpleandgold...MU is 22-5 in all games this year refereed by men other than Burr, and 0-6 in games refereed by Burr.

Good point.  0-6 w Burr.  Coincidence?  I think not.

UW fans - Honestly, you seem evenly matched with MU .. what seed were you expecting?  Sure seems like YOU got screwed with an 11, if you match up well with the 6 you're playing.

Should have been lower, eh?

St. Johns would have taken no worse than 4th in the Pac-10. Rutgers and Providence would have competed.

There's a school named DePaul?

Facts?

Its an opinion based on a hypothetical situation and my perception of the relative strengths of each conference. Not a fact. You are welcome to disagree.

Our bottom of the league (not even cracking the top 8):
Connecticut 55
Seton Hall 62
St. John's 65
Cincinnati 69
Providence 84
Rutgers 148

Your bottom of the league (everyone out of 3rd place):
USC 72
Arizona 86
Stanford 99
UCLA 106
Washington St. 116
Oregon 124
Oregon State 126

I base my opinion that St. John's would take no worse than 4th on the simple fact that they are ranked higher than all but 3 teams in the Pac-10, Providence would have surely competed as according to Pomeroy, they are better than 5 teams (50%) of the conference. Rutgers probably would have been toward the back. But 40% of your teams were ranked in the triple digits (with Stanford at 99), as compared to only 12.5% of ours. Rutgers would have been able to compete in the majority of games.
