Dwight Buycks
« on: March 13, 2010, 03:21:17 PM »
What are people seeing in this kid that make them think he'll become a significant contributer next year?

I wanted him to be really good since he's our first MPS kid in awhile but I'm not seeing the burst or confidence with the stroke needed to excel in the Big East.

Not seeing that much potential yet certainly not the type of potential his JUCO coach was hyping him as having.

With DJO playing like a kitten last night it was his time to shine and he didn't show much.

Agree with your assesment.  However, if Buycks can get his outside shot to fall consistently (and thats a big if), he could be pretty good next year.  We did see flashes of his ability this year for sure.  Very good at driving, but like DJO, he too was pretty inconsistent, but not nearly as effective as DJO.  DJO may skew things though, as far as what to expect from technically a first-year player - as he was really pretty darn good for a 1st  year Big East player.

Buycks did show talen getting to the hoop and scoring or drawing fouls.  Need his outside shot to fall, and he's good.

Also, both he and DJO need to reduce their TOs.  They will get better over the summer and through next year with a full year of D1 ball under their belts, and even some BEast tourney play and NCAA play.

Lets wait until he's completely healthy before we bury the kid.

People writing him off are going to be very surprised next year.  I think he will probably start.  If not, prolly 25 min a game and average 10 ppg.  Plus, he is a good rebounder for his size which will be important next year with Lazar gone.

His defense still needs work but I hope it will improve after the off season.

He needs 10 to 15 pounds of muscle and some better decision making. If he does that, they will be calling him the most improved player in the Bigeast next year.

Someone needs to tell him that not every shot needs to be a fall away jumper one foot inside of the three point line.

He sometimes plays like he thinks he's an awesome playground player in a 3-3 pick up game and not one of five on a D-1 college team.

I have no doubt that barring injury, he will be starting at least at the beginning of next year.
