Any questions?

You also need to remember that Lazar is playing completely out of position.  I definitely would not judge tonight's performance as the who should be first team Big East.  Also, what about the first Georgetown-Marquette game?  Monroe was absent during that game.

heres my take on what i saw on lazar v. monroe.  What makes Monroe the most dangerous is that he can catch the ball so high in the post with his back to the basket and either pass (as we heard ad nauseum tonight) or spin and attack the basket with his length and quickness. Upon the catch, when Zar put his body up on Monroe, he essentially took away his passing skill because the lateral passes disappeared. However that put Lazar at risk of getting a half step behind Lazar should Monroe go to the basket, and at the severe risk of fouling.
Considering we couldn't afford to lose Lazar, the result was all of those defensive sets when Lazar would have a hand on Monroe's back and would be standing almost an arms length away. Unfortunately that played right into Monroe's strength. If we were deeper and confident in our frontcourt bench, I think the matchup would have been more competitive.

The Pickle

Marquette vs. Georgetown #1
Lazar:  12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists
Monroe:  9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists

Marquette vs. Georgetown #2
Lazar:  15 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists
Monroe:  23 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists

Agree with you Lazar is out of position...on defense.  It's not like they have him playing strictly post on offense.  Statistically, from the first game, they were pretty much dead even...

I'm comparing them as players, not as head to head when they are guarding each other.  Either way, the key was exactly what Buzz said at half, Monroe caught the ball in good points both on the block and high post.  He must have used that baseline spin move 3 times in a row in the first half and scored on all 3...

Lazar had a great tourney and year, but he really has to stop with the frustration fouls 80 ft from the bucket.

And I know it actually worked once tonght, but do we have to use him at least twice a game to try to trap at the top of the key 30 feet from the basket?  Pretty much every time we get completely burned for a easy layup or wide open three.
