I'll take the candor, versus canned responses anyday.  Bottom line, as another team's fans and media said: "That guy sounds like a coach, and is what a coach should sound like."  (Seton Hall fan board/media).

But does he pass the "eye test"?

Rosiak confirmed what we were all thinking... Buzz was upset about Breeding interjecting.  Although, I have yet to see any confirmation on the 4th official's authority.  Is the NCAA official's manual available online somewhere?  I'd like to know:

1) Does the fourth official have the right to give input to the 3-man crew in matters not involving the shot clock, possession arrow, 5th foul, ior other calls that are naturally made from the scorer's table?

2) If so, can the fourth official "speak if not spoken to," in a "non-scorer's table" situation?  In other words, can he only give input if asked or can he actually instigate a conference amongst the officials?

The NCAA rulebook is online.  But the rulebook doesn't cover every officiating procedure.  For instance, USA Hockey publishes a "Situation Manual" for officials that covers just about every possible game situation and the correct interpretation for odd scenarios not covered explicitly by the rulebook or officiating manuals.  Does the NCAA have such a publication?  (bma?)

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I've mentioned a few times that I think he does read the boards.  Oh, and Buzz, for the record, I'm with you on FTs too.  In fact, it's just a vocal minority (read: chicos) that likes to harp on it.

free throw harping? As in practicing them?  I don't believe I've said anything about that in ages...not sure what harping you are talking about

They do have, or at least they used to.  As of Tuesday, it's no longer linkable from their site.  You have to register and they send you a pdf.  I've done so, but don't have access to the file right now, so I don't know if they have anything in there about that situation.

Mobot

Three things that I took from that presser...

1.  Was Buzz wearing one of those calculator watches that were popular in the 80's?

2.  Was Buzz drinking Sweet Tea or Cola?

3.  Was he joking when he mentioned hypnotizing his players so they could make free throws?

Would be nowhere without the support of the Marquette community. Can't beat the MU family.

Rooting for Lazar, Jimmy, Steve, Wes and Dwyane always. Go Buzz.

I read this guy Broeker's bio and I have to say he's not that distinquished. In fact, the Siena heritage makes me wonder if he is a Mike Deane legacy?

I thought Buzz handled that with an incredible amount of class. You could tell that he was holding back. He is certainly a straight shooter, but can tell when enough is enough. I'd like to hear what he thought about the call, off camera.

I would like to hear about his hiring process!!

Agreed.  Also I'm glad Buzz waited until after the game to get mad rather than when it happened as a T would have pretty much sank us at that point.  Great job to hold it in.

Who knows?  Maybe the fourth ref would have T'd him up from the scorers table haha.

MU B2002

Do we know what officials will be working today's game, or do they not annouce that until they run out of the tunnel?

I would be a little worried about additional retaliation towards Buzz from a certain footlocker employee.

I know a fair amount of D2/D3 officials. I'll ask some of them if they have a college "case book" and if so if they could forward it to me.

Broeker actually is a former NBA marketing guy that goes back to the Crean days (he was brought in around 2004). Rumor was it from some people that Crean had pushed Broeker for the AD job hard prior to Cottingham.  Believe that Broeker is now more or less in charge of all the sales/marketing for the athletic department and is the primary media contact for men's basketball.
