Nearly blow a 25 point lead in less than 10 minutes to an 4-14 Providence team.  Do any of these bubble teams really want to make the field?
The General has taken on a new command.

Bobby G is being interviewed on ESPN right now about the game .. up 3 .. with time running down, he was asked if he wanted to foul.  He said he was trying to get his players to foul Providence, but "didn't get to them" .. Prov shot a 3 that was, thankfully for SH, an airball, and time expired.

He said "well, it's better to be lucky than good."  Lucky that SH shot an airball.

Gosh.  Another coach up by 3 wanting to foul before the opposition can make a 3.

That post-game interview was amazing. "Yah, you know we're up by 22, I started thinking about the Notre Dame game tomorrow, took out Hazell and Pope to give them some rest before that, next thing you know it's a 3 point game...better to be lucky than good!"

no sh!t

More self-embarassment from Gonzo.  With all eyes on his team, which needs to prove something to get in the tournament and make him look like less of a loser, he gives up over 100 points and almost blows that lead, then responds with idiotic comments like that.  Win by 22 and keep the score reasonable and it gives the committee something to think about if they beat Notre Dame.  Now they probably have to beat ND and Pitt.

Right, because Bobby G is the role model for good coaches everywhere!!! :P

Didn't the same thing happen with us last year?  Big lead, sat the starter, game got tight.  At Providence as well if I recall.

Oh, come on!  You think the committee is going to bypass them because of the score in an early round conference tournament game?  They won, that is all the committee is going to see.  A blow-out of a weak team means nothing.  They have to beat ND anyway.  If they do that, they are in or not, but it will have nothing to do with their margin against PC.

PGsHeroes32

sadly if they beat ND they are in. After that performance they shouldnt be allowed though

equally fun - is ND in if they lose to SH?

If yes, the MU win saves the day for them, because its hard to see them getting in if they drop both those games. Doesn't really mean much, just interesting.

Using that logic, anyone that lost to DePaul shouldn't be either.

It did happen to us, but it was Rutgers, not Providence.  We were trailing most of the Providence game and didn't take the lead until there was 3:27 left.  Against Rutgers, we had a 20 point lead with 13 or so minutes to go and Buzz pulled the starters.  Rutgers started climibing back in and the game ended up being a 5 point win.

And has he pulled the starters since with a lead? IIRC it doesn't seem that way, not that we have had many big leads.

It wasn't that Gonzalez pulled the starters - pretty common to do so in a game when you have a sizeable lead, yes? - it was the remark about "I filed this game away and started thinking about the next one while we were still on the court with 5 minutes left" that was just the most ridiculous thing to say. And he kept saying "oh nothing against Rutgers but we just weren't thinking about them anymore" and "oh nothing against Rutgers but Notre Dame isn't a team that will let us get up by 30". Idiot.
