Buycks out

Newark, N.J. -- The Marquette Golden Eagles will be especially short-handed today for their game against the Seton Hall Pirates.

Junior guard Dwight Buycks did not make the trip because of an upper respiratory infection, leaving Junior Cadougan as the lone scholarship guard off the bench for MU.

It's hoped Buycks will be available Tuesday when the Golden Eagles host the Louisville Cardinals.

uh oh.
short bench just got shorter.

our guys gonna be gassed?

djo better be eating his wheaties, especially if he's all over hazell

chren21

That's fine.  Junior needs to step up.

wheresthecake?

Ouch, we'll miss his D today.  Time for Junior's coming out party!

MarquetteDano

Noooooooo!  With Louisville on the quick turnaround this is horrible news.  I now predict a loss for this game.  Please, Lord, let me be wrong.

warriors_mu

This definitely makes a tough game a bit tougher. Perhaps this will be the one game Junior makes a difference that Buzz talked about.

ohiomarqfan

Maybe we'll see more of a Lazar-Butler-Fulce line-up like he showed a bit at Cincy, I believe.

I'm predicting a big game from Fulce.  If Butler and Lazar both stay out of foul trouble, I think we see more of the Fulce, Hayward, Bulter + 2 guards in the second half.

Windyplayer

We know this is going to be a tough game with or without Buycks. I don't think he's the difference. I would actually like to see what Cadougan can do with more PT against a quality opponent. We need to find out what Cadougan can do once he's in the flow of a game. It's difficult to get there with sporadic minutes.

This would not be a crazy idea at all today. Put Cooby on the bench and start Fulce so Lazar can play the 4 and Jimmy play the 3.  More length out on the wing with Jimmy would not exactly be a crazy idea, especially with having to guard Hazell possibly.
The General has taken on a new command.

ohiomarqfan

Fulce has definately been playing better here lately.

Windyplayer

I don't think Buzz is going to tinker with the starting lineup, but hopefully he makes that move at 19:59.

MauraDay

glad this wasn't about his injury. i was worried that "out" was going to be followed by "for the season."

NersEllenson

Would also like to see more of the Fulce, Butler, Hayward pairing with DJO and MO.  I'm sure Cooby starts, but would not be surprised to see Buzz go with above line up early.  I don't see Junior really having a major minute increase today - maybe he gets 10 as a result of this.  I'd imagine we'll get Fulce for about 20 minutes today.  I think how Joe goes, so will this team today.  If Joe shows up big again, they win, if not, they lose.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

Yikes...not good news at all for today.  Jimmy will have to get minutes at guard today to give DJO a rest on Hazell.  EWill may be the one who needs to step up to give us minutes in case of foul trouble.  I hope he is ready.

nyg

If DJO gets in foul trouble guarding Hazell, then I forsee significant problems.  If not, should be alright.

Agree 100%  Now that we are short on guard we need to control the tempo (i.e. slow it down) in this game.   SH likes to have high tempo games.  In order to control the tempo we need to rebound better so Fulce is the answer there.  Plus, being short on guard means we should play only two guards for larger portions of this game.

Unfortuantely, SHU plays 3 guards all the time. Fulce will not be a good matchup there.

I'm not sure we have to match-up to SHU, nor am I sure that we couldn't tinker with a zone, trap, etc. that would allow us to go "big" for MU standards.

Maybe a box-and-one on Hazell.

I hear ya, but we were already in trouble in this game if it became a track meet.  Seton Hall is 29th in the country in pace.  We are like 250th.  Now without Buycks pace becomes even more of an issue.  We need a way to SLOW DOWN the game.

Plus, we have Louisville in two days.  We can't have tired legs for that one.

Assuming the MU staff has the zithromax z pak going on, he'll be fine for duty on Tues.

That stuff is the goods.  I took it once and it clear up my infection in no time.  Wow did it knock me out though... I think I slept 30 hours straight.

Doesn't look like Buzz wants to use Junior at all if he can help it. The five starters may play 38 minutes each.

Confused... hasn't Fulce got good time today? And EWill and JC have been in there.  With Buycks out the starters will have to play more minutes, though I don't know about 38 min each.
