I hear some talk that if Vander Blue Starts right away, some think he could be one and done if we have a good year. Is this crazy?  Or is it actually a possibility?

Although I don't think he will, if Vander puts together a season similar to the one Dominic James had his freshman year, he could easily go into the draft. 'Nic would've been a lottery pick that year. A certain bust, but a lottery pick nonetheless. The NBA draft is all about potential, so if Vander has a year similar to the one DJ had a few years back, it wouldn't be out of the question.

Hate these speculative questions, but they're fun for forums!

If he's billed as he is and producing and continually improving, I say he's a 3 year candidate.

If MU tastes the NCAA from his frosh/soph years AND ON, he might stay his 4 years for a deeper run.

A lot depends on how quickly he learns to play defense at Div I level.  right now he is playing on the back of a 1-3-1 zone (whioch is rdiculous).

MuMark

Vander is not a 1 and done talent and DJ would not have been a lottery pick after his freshman season.

MR.HAYWARD

Dj would have probably been a 1st rounder but to have your memory clouded by time and say he would have been a lottery pick is crazy

I think Vander will be a nice, solid player his freshman year.. maybe 9 pts 2ast 2 reb per game.  I highly doubt he goes straight to the NBA.  As for DJames he probably would have been picked somewhere between 20-30 in the first round if he came out.  Definatley not a lottery pick.

Peoples_Republic_Warrior

Yes you guys are right...I retract my previous statement. All I'm trying to say is that if Vander has a similar year, he could have a legit shot at getting drafted, which obviously means he could decide to leave.

Brewtown Andy

Where did this retroactive glee about DJ's freshman year come from?

When was the last player from Wisconsin to be a one-and-done? He'll be in a whole different world playing in the Big East next year.

Jimmy and DJO will be a too big a part of the offense for Vander to put up the numbers to go to the NBA.  Im happy that Vander will likely be around for 3 or 4 years.

How many players who have a legitimate shot at being a lottery pick actually stay "for a deeper run"? Wade didn't do it and Hansborough wasn't really deemed a lottery pick. I really can't think of anyone who stayed for a deeper run. Well, the FL team came back, but they were coming off a championship already. They stayed for a repeat and dynasty.

Sites had him as high as the lottery. He would have fallen after measurements and camps, but he definitely could've been a one and done player. It would be a personal choice, but he may have been better off leaving. If was selected in the first round he was a guaranteed millionaire and NBA lifestyle for 3 years. I think he would've been bordlerline 1st/2nd, although McNeal was suppose to go there too.

ANY college basketball player (with very, very few exceptions) who has a strong chance to go in the first round owes it to himself to leave early and get a guaranteed contract. You can only play basketball at a high level for so many years. This is typically in the years of 19/20 to the mid-30s for a basketball player. At best you are looking at a 15 year career, but more likely ten or less. If you have a chance to make millions of dollars during any one of those years you have to take it. To argue otherwise is ridiculous. I loved college and the college basketball experience is a good one, but when it comes to your career and your livelihood you have an obligation to do what is best for YOU. I would hope if given Vander Blue would do the same and I would never, ever fault him for it.

I don't think Vander Blue will start until his Soph year-----Buycks will start ahead of him next year. Look for DW to be vastly improved next year. Ultimately Blue shouldl be a very good player at MU.

WxWarrior

He had a great game in a win against Madison East last Thursday... 21 and 12 in front of Buzz.  Most came in the second half.  Apparently their were like 6 D1 recruits on the floor.   Amazing hoops out of Madtown these days.
