#1 seeds
« on: February 25, 2010, 03:41:56 PM »
Who will be the four number 1 seeds come NCAA tournament??  Hummel going down last night I think takes Purdue out of a #1, so mine would probably be:

1 overall Kansas
then...
Kentucky
Syracuse

But then who is the 4th?!  Duke?  Not a strong enough conference in my opinion period and are groslly overrated (typical).  I'm actually going to go with Kansas State as a legitimate shot for that fourth 1 seed, though I'd like Villanova giving Big East some love  :)

I actually think Kentucky will get the overall number one, because I have a nagging feeling Kansas will lose one in the Big 12 tourney (still think they're a better team though)

So my #1s will look like this:
    Kentucky
    Kansas
Winner of Villanova-Cuse Game on Saturday
    Kansas State

KSU is a bit out there, but they can certainly win out, and if they run the Big 12 tournament, which would likely include beating KU, their RPI is way up there and they have been destroying teams as of late.

If Duke wins out, weak conference or not, I have to think they get a number 1.

I agree....if Duke wins ACC tourney, they are a #1 seed, weak conference but committee seems to love ACC. Purdue may have a chance if Duke stumbles.

I would say this is true, but if KSU were to beat KU in their conference tournament I gotta think KSU would get the #1 over Duke for that.  KU wouldn't lose their grip on a #1 if they lost in the conference tournament.

If Duke gets a No. 1 seed, you can rest assured they will be the first top seed to get eliminated. This is a very ordinary (for Coach K) team.

Where's Utah State and legendary coach Stew Morrill seeded?  I have them as a number 1

I think there's only one poster that was claiming Stew was a legend.   Wait...was that you Chicos?

Agree.  Weak conference maybe.  But they're far and away the best team in it. If they are 30-4 with a league title and conference tournament title as well as a 13 game winning streak they are going to have a #1 seed resume.

Damn right....and he's likely going back to the NCAAs again this year with a sterling 35 RPI.  That man can flat out coach (props to Digger Phelps)

I know Kentucky's resume is great, and because they have two big guys I don't want Marquette to play them, but a good team is going to beat them before the Final Four.  I don't think they have what it takes offensively to make it to the Final Four.

Assuming they are a #1 seed I predict they are the first #1 to fall.

Kansas
Kentucky
Syracuse
Duke

Even if Syracuse losses to Nova on Saturday but wins the rest plus a BE tourney game, I think they will be a No.1. You have to take into consideration the fact that Syracuse is a host site and hence cannot play there. They will be the team that will have to go west as the No.1. NOva will be a 2 and will get to play at Syracuse assuming they make it to the sweet 16.

I knew that Cousins and Patterson were big, but I always forget about Orton.

54 Patrick Patterson F  6-9  235  Junior  Huntington, WV
21 Perry Stevenson F  6-9  207  Senior  Lafayette, LA
55 Josh Harrellson F  6-10  265  Junior  St. Charles, MO
33 Daniel Orton F  6-10  255  Freshman  Oklahoma City, OK
15 DeMarcus Cousins F  6-11  270  Freshman  Mobile, AL

Perry Stevenson and Josh Harrellson are bench wormers. It is a 3 man rotation of Patterson Cousins, and Orton. But Kentucky's guards are extremely tall also. Wall and Bledsoe are the only 2 players on the team that are shorter then 6"6".

I'd say Duke would be the first #1 seed to go down before Kentucky.  Kentucky has size and granted they are young, but I just don't see Duke making a big run in the tournament.  I see them falling relatively early (sweet 16 or so) per the typical Duke year
