I have a feeling that was supposed to be for Mo, but he had to kick it to Jimmy. I thought he did a much better job at the end of regulation tonight than he has in most of our other close games. On most nights, I would have to agree with you though

Butler's a 54% 3-point shooter.  He had a wide open look and almost nailed it - I don't see how that's a bad play.  Plus I don't think that was intended to be the first option.

The game is tied.  No reason for a 3 pt shot.  And Hayward should have touched the ball more.

A 3 pt shot from Butler?

You're complaining about a ridiculously wide open look for a guy shooting better than 54 percent out there?
Hmmm.

Do you honestly think that was option #1 on that play?

I thought it was a great look; just about as good a shot as we could have asked for.

Mike Deane's Seat Belt

well the whole thing looked like a pathetic attempt at a drawn up play .......

there wasnt even a thought about going inside .

buzz is really a sub par coach all around,   decent recruiter thus far..... but man these game decisions are making me scratch my head.

thE bigger concern should be allowing a three pointer witha foul to give.   No threes with that much time left and a foul to give it's logical

You're the same guy who gets pissy when the other team gets open looks at threes at end game situations.  Give it up...

Like today when MU was up 3 and gave up the wide open 3 pt shot and they could have fouled before that?

Buzz calls time out and has them run their offense.   Butler decides to be the man both times.    missed 1, should have missed a second one, but he did it without fear.      SJU made a helluva defensive play on the near strip.

The guy who hit that shot was a 22% 3 PT shooter.  You have the game clock in your favor with plenty of time left up 3.  Little different than fouling vs. Cincy up 3 with under 7 seconds left. Odds are, the 22% 3 PT shooter doesn't hit that one again in the same situation all season.

I get the feeling Gumbey lives in the world of could of, should of, would of.  It's the story of his life, and thus explains why he is so pessimistic in all of his posts.  This topic and his post are par for his course.  How miserable are you dude?  Get yourself some help.

If you have been watching at the end of the season, Buzz goes to Jimmry and lets him create.  I have no problem with Buzz doing this every game and it is a great strategy since it has worked!!!!!!!!

I guess Buzz should have drawn up his magic get Marquette an uncontested layup play.

Every end of game possession is the same for every team.  Some type of iso or pick and roll from the top of the key.  It's about players making plays at the end of the game.

I am not sure if you're actually flame or just an insanely negative person.

Buzz coached perfectly on offense at the end of the game.  The first play looked like it broke down, the second started fine and JButt made a huge shot after it got knocked away.  Buzz called two TO's, drew up the play, both resulted in good things--a wide open three, and a clutch shot.  I'll take that any day.

you know what i could give  crap  we could look at alot of things ackers missed Ft's and a bunch of other stuff.  Who cares we freaking won.  Mu is so close to punching their ticket.  Buzz is going to be a media darling and possible BE cocah of the year.  What will this guy do on the recruitng trail after a season like this??/  He got 2 top 15 classes when know one even knew his name!!

Daniel

Look - we had a lot of trouble scoring inside - a wide open 3 from a 54%R shooter - why not.

On the 3 where SJU tied it at end of regulation, I was looking more for the pickter fence concept protecting the 3 point line - who cares if they get a 2?  But we slipped up on D and left that guy open.

But. . .  we won :)

I don't even know what to say to that.
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

The fact that Buzz is being called a bad coach is insane.

We have two completely undersized guards, 2 JUCO players, and Lazar - and they have 9 wins in the Big East!!!

A conference that's loaded with mcdonalds all americans, and guys that stand 6'7'' and above.

Buzz has done an amazing job with so little talent. To criticize him after another great win on the road is incredible.

We are Marquette!!

Great win. Doesn't matter if it's ugly or whatever, just get the W and we did. Pitt would've loved an ugly win at ND tonight.

My only criticism on the end of game plays is that we do wait really long to initiate the offense. I realize you don't want to give the other team the opportunity to get a shot off, but starting a second or two earlier wouldn't hurt. Jimmy's look in regulation was a good look, but he clearly rushed it b/c the clock was about to run out.

Huge win!!!!!!

It would have been stupid for MU to foul then.  SJU got the ball with 36.7 seconds left with the worst scenario being they would be tied and there would still be time left for Buzz to call a time out for a game winner...which is exactly what occurred even though MU missed.  If we foul, the shot clock resets at 35 and SJU can take more time to get a shot up taking any leverage away from Buzz nad our defense.  Buzz played it well all the way through tonight.  Good use of time outs to stop runs on the road.

MUBurrow

I think Buzz did/is doing fine. I think what these end of game situations really highlight is that Lazar (and most of the team for that matter) really can't create their own shots.  That's why we keep seeing Jimmy with the ball in these situations, because between he and DJO, he's definitely the elder statesman and gets the last shot.  The fact that we lack guys to create their own shots only highlights how handcuffed Buzz is in these situations, because defenses can choke up knowing that guys won't shake loose 1 v 1.
