ESPN’s Bardo Predicts MU to be in the NCAA Tourney
« on: February 24, 2010, 11:34:57 AM »
Last night in the ESPN Studio, Stephen Bardo related that the current top 8 teams in the Big East (UCONN being #8) would get in and that Marquette was the first round opponent that nobody would want to play.

I’m not sure 8 will be the number form the Big East but it is nice to hear another commentator mentioning that Marquette should get in.

Early line had MU favored by 1 ½ against the Johnny’s tonight.

my biggest fear is that the committee only takes 7 from the BE, and has a strong push to get UConn in. that would likely make the game against Louisville essentially a play-in game. of course the BE tourney has huge implications on this as well.

Conference affiliation is not a consideration in the selection process.  The NCAA emphasizes this fact, and the media who participate in the mock selection each year consistently report that "bids per conference" never comes up in the selection process.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

That is the pro and con in being in the Big East.  There are about 6 or 7 teams that can play their way in or out of the tourney (MU, ND, Louis, SH, Cinn, UConn and South Florida).  You win out and play really well in the BE tourney, you can make a damn good case for getting in.

Last night on SportsCenter, Joe Lunardi ranked his Top 10 Bubble Teams. Marquette wasn't even on the list, making it pretty clear that if MU takes care of business, they'll have nothing to worry about (at least in Lunardi's opinion).
