Recap: Cincinnati

Player of the game: It’s tough to not give it to Hayward, who hit the big three-pointer to tie it up at 67-67 late in regulation at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, and then scored five more points in overtime en route to his sixth double-double in Big East play.

But we’ll go with Jimmy Butler today. He did tie Darius Johnson-Odom for the game high in scoring with 20 points, but it was his yeoman’s work down low against some big, beefy bodies in Yancy Gates and Steve Toyloy and a long, athletic center in Ibrahima Thomas that solidified things all afternoon for the Golden Eagles.

Not surprisingly, he again led MU in free throws, getting to the line 10 times and knocking down nine. His lone miss came early in overtime, but it still appeared to be right on line. Considering his struggles from the line in the loss to Pittsburgh, MU fans have to be heartened to see the junior forward rounding back into form.

Interesting note in the post game comments from Buzz on Buycks:  "Buycks turned his ankle on Saturday morning; he was at the hospital, tore his ankle up, bone spur came off. Today when I put him in the game, that was the first time he had done anything."

Couldn't tell he was hurt in the game.  I'm not a doctor, so hopefully this isn't anything serious that could cause problems down the road.

I would think it would be pretty easy not to give player of the game to Hayward.  He played brilliantly in the last 2 minutes and OT, but the first 38 minutes MU did better when he was on the bench.

Perhaps the team stayed at a Holiday Inn the night prior to the game.....   ::)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.
