Very sluggish on offense, and flat out lazy on defense.

could we be playing any worse?
probably, but this is a game we really ought to be winning.
and win.

what the hell was that TC timeout on the 2 on 1 break all about?
he does have a bad record in that vein, that's for certain.

fuming right now.

mu_hilltopper

The timeout wasn't THAT bad .. it was just about 1.5 seconds too late .. Fitz was tied up under the basket, and it looked like he wasn't going to get free, so TC called the TO .. but in the middle of doing so, Fitz got the ball free down to DJ at mid court.  THen the ref "heard" the TO and stopped the game.

TVDirector

uh, don't buy it.
the ball is tied up under the hoop.
to not called until mu is attacking the other hoop?
hell, they call to's in less time as guys are leaping out of bounds.

goofy... goofy... goofy.

mu_hilltopper

he just said on his post game .. the place was "the loudest" he's heard it, he was screaming a couple times to a ref to take a TO and didn't get it.  He's talking a lot about not being able to call TOs when he wanted them because of noise.

TVDirector

the ref was standing in front of  him when the TO came??!!
if he wasn't screaming for it then, the ref would have been on the other side of half court..

do you think the ref delayed the call???

don't buy it.

mu_hilltopper

Ok, you're totally right.  Crean saw that we had a 2 on 1 streaking down the court and he said, hey, a TO right now would be a good idea, as 2 on 1s are never any good.  No, no, he was on his cell phone and wasn't even watching the game, then called TO for the hell of it.

Uh huh.

TVDirector

give me a break.

did you even WATCH the play??

the guys were tied up at the other baseline!
how could a TO be heard (per TC's comments) way down there?
he MUST have kept calling for it, even as the ball was being advanced!

or the refs had a delay function built into their hearing aids this eve.

4everwarriors

screwed up the alley-oop anyway.

Yes, I did watch the play.  So for the 3-4 seconds Fitz was tied up under the basket was it OK for Crean to try and get a TO?  And if the refs didn't hear him, was it understandable that he'd yell TO again a second later?     Refs aren't machines, yes, they might take 1-2 seconds to react.   Ever seen a delayed call?  Happens all the time.  Presto, now the TO has been called about 1=2 seconds too late, and it screws us.

That entire possession was MAYBE 7 seconds long.  You get a TO while Fitz is hung up those 3-4 first seconds, and it looks like we're heading for a held ball, and you're a hero. It's called 2 seconds later, and here comes the guys watching it on jerky internet video.

If you want to stick to the story that Crean was just trying to throw the game by destroying a chance to get an (easier) bucket, be my guest.

Bottom line, the TO turned out to be inopportune, but it looked like the right thing to do while Fitz was tied up.  Had the refs heard TC the first time he yelled it, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I have no clue what you are asserting here.
Crean trying to throw the game??

I have witnessed TC several times calling for oddly timed TO's in the passed- breaks that if not called would not have disturbed the current action which often resulted in an MU score.
This looked like one of those times, to me.
