If the game was for money or any kind of motivation, Nets would absolutely kill them. However, if Kansas is a NBA team and it was a normal game, then they MIGHT have a shot. The Nets just don't play with heart right now. That said, Nets have so much more talent currently.

This game wouldn't even be close.

The Nets would blow the Jayhawks out of the water.

I always think these comparisons are silly.  A pro team is still that, a team made up of elite college players.  In college you have weak spots or filler guys.  In the NBA the weak/filler guys are guys like CDR and courtney lee that were fantastic college players.

i too love these comparison, but i feel the nets would win this hands down.

a thing that jumped out when looking at the rosters is that kansas doesn't go super deep on the bench.  i may have tuned out in the handful of games i've watched of theirs this year, but i had no clue they had that many players.  i haven't even heard half the kids names mentioned.

on the comparison note, a debate i get in a lot is that i've always said a good chicago public high school boys team could beat the UConn girls team.  sure fundamentals are on the side of UConn, but sheer athleticism makes up the difference for the boys.

A  Nets-Ku game would be much closer than a decent Chi hs boys team-Uconn matchup would be.  KU would at least be able to compete, the Uconn womens' team wouldn't even stand a chance.

I read somewhere that one of the Vegas oddsmakers said the Nets would only be a 10 point favorite over Kentucky (sorry I'm too lazy to look for the link if anyone cares).  That sounds absurd to me as I think it should be more like 30.

Take the worst player on the Nets and put him on MU and we become a final 4 threat.    No comparison.

Or if you go by contract, Bobby Simmons.

Trenton Hassell is still in the NBA?  I thought he retired years ago with Lindsey Hunter

Yeah I don't see Kansas standing a chance. The Nets, like any NBA team, have a roster filled with college standouts.  As Kansas is as talented as anyone this year, but not all of them have NBA talent.  Plus the Nets' experience level alone would blow Kansas out of the water.

Walk-ons and weird circumstances. The one that comes to mind is CJ Henry, who transferred from Memphis to play with his brother, Xavier. CJ's tuition is not being paid by KU, but rather by the New York Yankees. No joke, google it.

These questions are always stupid. Granted, the college game and the NBA game are very different in a lot of ways, from clearly defined rules to unspoken ones, but any NBA team, even this historically bad ones, would crush even the best college teams.

There are a couple of college teams that come to mind that I think would be able to give disastrous pro teams a game.

The two that come to mind are the back to back Florida champs which had a starting lineup that, together now in the NBA, would be better than some on certain nights.

Another was the UConn team that lost to George Mason. I know that sentence should seem self-contradictory, but they were so good they got bored. That lineup (Gay, Boone, etc) could give horrendous NBA teams a game.

I don't necessarily think either would win, but I might take the college team against the spread (15?)

All this list points out for me is the ridiculousness of NBA contracts.

Tony Battie makes 6+ mil?

Dooling makes over 3 mil

There isn't one contract on the Nets roster that makes sense to me.  The only one that comes close is Devin Harris's contract, and only because of how inflated the others are.

They should make a rule that if you don't win 15+ games in a year you forfeit your contract, these guys are stealing money to lose.

Hell, Nets, pay me 1000 bucks a game, I'll go out and lose.

Some of those guys make way too much, but because I like talking contract, I will point out a couple other good ones.  The problem with the Nets is that very few of their bad deals are expiring. The timing of contracts in the NBA is equally important to the amounts.  I highlighted guys that I think actually have pretty good deals based on how much they produce.  Problem is, none of these bargains are experienced enough (or relatively good enough) to lead a team to win.

7 Tony Battie C 34 6-11 240 Texas Tech $6,606,600
2 Josh Boone C 25 6-10 240 Connecticut $2,056,968
55 Keyon Dooling G 29 6-3 195 Missouri $3,564,000
17 Chris Douglas-Roberts SF 23 6-7 210 Memphis $736,420
34 Devin Harris PG 26 6-3 190 Wisconsin $8,400,000

44 Trenton Hassell SF 30 6-5 227 Austin Peay $4,350,000
22 Jarvis Hayes SF 28 6-8 228 Georgia $2,062,800
43 Kris Humphries PF 25 6-9 235 Minnesota $2,900,000
9 Yi Jianlian PF 22 7-0 250   $3,194,400
6 Courtney Lee SG 24 6-5 200 Western Kentucky $1,264,440
11 Brook Lopez C 21 7-0 265 Stanford $2,255,880

1 Chris Quinn PG 26 6-2 175 Notre Dame $1,050,387
21 Bobby Simmons SF 29 6-6 230 DePaul $11,242,666
8 Terrence Williams SF 22 6-6 220 Louisville $2,060,040

the two that stand out to me are Trenton Hassel and Bobby Simmons.  Its easy to overpay for size, see Battie, but 16 million for such crappy SF's?? Yuck

PS: Who originally gave Simmons that deal again?  ::)
