flipped over to the B10 network to get a score of the game.  The game was just ending, did anyone else see the hand shake between Matta and Crean?  Not tech savvy enough to know where or how to pull it up all I can say is WOW!  Glad that kind of classlessness has left for greener pastures.

The Lens

I'm a little disappointed that we never caught on to the clapping.  We would occasionally mention the pacing but IU has taken the clapping thing to a special place...a place where long ties and fake tans are right at home.

It'll be interesting if any of his recruits decide to transfer.

Losing sucks.

Transferring to a winning program is a tempting option.

So I read all the posts and still don't know what happen.  Does someone want to explain?

The pacing is as phony as the clapping. In fact, I'm willing to wager that ESPN's "pace cam" when he was here was his suggestion. You can't be running back and forth on the sideline while making well thought out decisions and observations.

Indiana has caught on to his schtick much faster than Milwaukee fans. It's just a pleasure!

I always thought that TC only ever saw 1/2 of a game (1/2 as he's walking towards the play on the court).  The other 1/2, he completely can't see as he's walking the other direction.

I dont know how to link the video or i would maybe some one else can.  Basically Crean walked up to MAtta and either did something or said something to which Matta threw his head back and took a step back.  Then he kind of stood there for a second as the little one stormed off, Matta then shook his head and moved on down the line.  It is clear that the Big ten coaches are developing a "love" of tom crean similar to the love the BEast coaches had for him.

You might be exaggerating, just a touch.  In watching video, Matta did throw his head back and say something, but he for sure did not stop, take step back, or pause.

Thanks for the link.....gosh I am glad the used car salesmen clapping clown is gone.  This is just more proof as to what a good catch Buzz truly is.

I wonder if he showed up for his post game radio show? I cannot wait for this dick to get fired...and I know it's a few years down the road. But he will be fired.

I'm as big of Buzz fan as there is, but I don't think his post game handshakes are all that friendly or warm.  Very deliberate, very quick - regardless of the outcome though, his postgame handshakes are consistent.  Maybe Crean was pissed at Matta for either running the score up, playing his starters late into the game (though I think TC did that a fair amount here at MU, and I recall some games where I wondered why our starters were still in the game) - or maybe something out on the recruiting trail.  I'll give him a pass on this.

I hate the argument that coaches are pissed at another coach for leaving their starters in generally, but this instance certainly doesnt work.  First off, Ohio State has a seven, sometimes six man rotation.  Secondly, Evan Turner, the POY, played less than 20min yesterday and took FOUR shots.  Chalk this one up to Crean being a turd and not wanting to show respect to a coach that has kicked his rear end ever since he showed up in the Big 10 and out recruits the tanned one's own backyard.  Matta's reaction tells the whole story.

copious1218

Maybe Crean simply said, "We'll get you next time" - this would certainly cause Matta to pause and chuckle.

MR.HAYWARD

The post game handshake is almost always a very short occurence.  Having gone thru many of them myself the bottom line is usually one if not both of the coaches at that point is either thoroughly pissed, disappointed or frustrated.  And post game pleasentries are the last thing they want to be participating in.  My experience at all levels is usually the coaches know each other and even if they dont they will have discussions and exchange pleasantries before the games during shootarounds or what have you.  This typically happens unless the coaches have a bad history.  So a short quick handshake you will see 99% of the time unless the coaches are very very close.  I have never seen or persoanlly taken offense to a losing coach shaking a hand or my hand and moving right on.  I do the same.  As you say Buzz does the same thing.

The issue with Crean is what happened last night happens alot.  He is almost universally disliked in his profession.  He is a short little man that has little to no sense of humor and has very few likeable qualities.  He was routinely mocked by his fellow Big east coaches and I cannot think of one that would count him as a friend even on a professional level.  Bob Huggins repeatedly mocked him in press conferences as "Tommy Naismith"  becuase he thinks he knows everything.  It is one thing to be upset with losing, it is another to be a complete freaking brat about it.  This is a man's game and the men about the game have little tolerance for fit throwing brats.  His continuous excuse making for everything that goes wrong, most often blaming it on other coaches for somehow cheating him got real old as well. How many times did Crean storm off the court after a loss and then refuse to fulfill his radio obligations.  It got to the point that if MU lost you could pretty much predict no post game appearance, be a man about it!

Crean's psot game antics of last night are no different than what he did numerous times at MU and my guess is he is alienating himself from the B10 coaches very quickly as well.  Seems Crean's all pomp with little circumstance is not getting it done at Indiana either.  Meanwhile, PT Barnum's replacement up here is just getting it done and appears to be universally respected by his peers and generally well liked.  He's recruitng like an Mf'er too!!

There is something to read into this. I believe it goes back to the D. James recruitment. Coach Matta does employ negative recruitment tactics as well as offering various incentives some coaches detest.
Maybe Matta was telling James that there is always the chance Crean leaves for a 'better' jo. . . oh wait, nevermind.

I never understood the "negative" recruiting arguement.  Doesn't it seem like it's the nature of business?  Explain why your school is better than the other and what your school can offer that others can't.

Spoken like a real expert. By the way, how do you know he is "almost universally disliked in his profession"? How many coaches have you spoken to?

How does someone "so universally disliked" manage to get a 2 million plus a year deal for 10 years? Nice to see you quoting Bob Huggins, someone who reeks class????

Amazing you can't move on.
