Enes Kanter just opened up his recruitment after giving his verbal to Washington. I have read he is one of the most polished players in next year's class and was MVP of some Euro tournament. He doesnt list MU....but....Buzz, are you following the story? Get your a$$ out of the Texas juco bush leagues and at least throw your name out there.

MHMUFAN

No scholarships left for next season....true?

tower912

Nope.   But these things always work out.   No one knows how.   It's a mystery.

I am actually quite pleased with Buzz's "bush league" JUCO players.

MU gimp ONE

i was just about to say... the same juco bush league that has produced our 2nd and 3rd leading scorers.

also don't forget that Marquette is not Duke.  we can't just throw our name out there and have a kid jump at the chance to play in Milwaukee.

Correct...no scholarships.

Couple of issues here:

1) Played in a pro league in Turkey.  Didn't accept pay reportedly, but NCAA has been all over the place on suspensions for amateurs that have played for pro teams.  Mbao got 2 games, for example, but the WVU center got 20.
2) Likely a one and done type talent.  Ineligible for the NBA draft until 2011, but even if he stayed more than 1 year, there's a shot he could bail mid-season for a European pro contract at all times.
3) Unsure of his status with the clearinghouse academically. He may not be qualified for all we know.

The only upside here I see for MU is that we got Mbao out of Stoneridge Prep, where he is currently at this year.  So we have a relationship with the school as it is.

I'd probably steer clear, but I wouldn't be surprised either if we end up in the mix.

Kanter will have some serious NCAA eligibility issues. In addition, I believe he is at his 3rd prep school since coming to the United States last fall.

As I have heard, the story goes...His team in Turkey was so opposed to him coming to the USA, that they started paying other players, as they realized that would cause him to be ineligible for NCAA play.

Anything is possible, I guess, but I would be surprised if he ever plays in the NCAA.

GoldenWarrior

It's worth at least giving the kid a call and talking with him for a bit.  Who knows?!

Anybody that uses, he might be one and done as an argument.  Should never go after 5 star Bigman. Every one them could be 1 and done.

I couldn't disagree with you more.
A) Lots of big men are NOT one-and-done. In fact, MOST stick around.
B) Even if a player is one-and-done, what's wrong with that? We currently have a couple 2-and-done players from junior colleges....
C) Landing the big name players helps recruiting in the long term.

There was nothing wrong with the original post.  A personal opinion.  It is not my opinion.  I suspect Buzz or his staff will be checking out the situation if they have not already checked it out.

You totally misunderstood what he was saying.

Just re-read what he wrote. His sentence structure and grammar threw me off. My bad.

When Kanter came over, there was a list of about 50 schools that have made contact with him...I believe MU was on that list.

Again...the fact he has been at 3 prep schools in about 4 months, the looming NCAA issue...it just isnt a good situation with him.

tower912

I am sure that Buzz and co will do their due diligence.  If they think he will be eligible and they can get him, they should get him.   The scholarship situation will work itself out.    Sniffing around a couple of other boards, fans seem to think that Calipari is interested, IU hopes Crean is and believe the academics will fall in line.

Issues like that didn't exactly slow down the Coleman recruitment. Eyes were batting at each other for some time until it was decided left was better then right.

Coleman's situation was completely different.  His school changes had to do with academics.  There are question about whether or not he'll be able to qualify right now, but no one doubts eventually he'll play in the NCAA.

Kanter's have to do with the fact that schools were receiving word that they would have to forfeit their entire season if they let him play one game, because high school athletic associations were determining that he was a pro.  Right now, no one is sure whether the NCAA will ever let him play.

So, we have two players who are moving schools in order to gain eligibility?

No, we dont. Kanter likely wont gain eligibility no matter where he goes to prep school.

The curious case of the NCAA. Let's see what happens.

Btw, were you waiting in the weeds to respond? Quick, you are.

Perhaps, but different kinds.

Coleman was moving to try to find a place that could help him become academically eligible to play college ball.

Kanter was moving to be eligible for high school competition, not college.  Where he goes to prep school will have no effect on his college eligibility, that's going to be decided by things that occurred years ago.
