Tosa East also retired Devin Harris's jersey.

Soon, Scott Merritt's will be retired...one can hope!

agreed.....Merrit was a terrific player at Tosa East  ... and at MU as well.  I hope he receives the honor soon

Come on, NYWarrior -
Merritt was a decent player. I wouldn't classify him as "terrific." Devin Harris is in the NBA and Tony Smith was for like 10 years. Plus, their respective careers -- both collegiately and professionally - dwarfed the career of Merritt.

I think there is a significant difference. I just think institutions, including Marquette, have gone jersey-retirement crazy!

all i was saying is that Merrit's jersey at Tosa East should be retired...he was one of the best to ever wear the jersey there.  Pro career or not -- he's deserving.  Jerry Smith too regardless of what he does at the next level (if there is one for him)

I'm with you on this one.

At my high school, they honor the ones that went on and did well, BUT they also honor the ones that did well at the high school level. And from what I can recall, Merritt was not only a "good player" in hs...he was the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year.
