BEARS STILL SUCK

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

"Lazar Hayward. The L stands for leader, and the W stands for winner, Lazar Hayward is a winner."

If he was only 10" taller, he might be a big east worthy player.

boyonthedock

I've noticed that there are not that many big east caliber players in the big east

mu_hilltopper

This thread again?  Can we just merge it with the one from like 6 days ago?

rocky_warrior

No, cuz of all the Acker bashers we have to have a sarcastic Acker thread after every game.  It's MUScoop rule #5'8"

HA!

Did you know Acker is the shortest player in the BEast? I did not know that. No one has ever said that before.

Really happy to see Acker get SOTG. (that part is NOT sarcasm)

Daniel

Acker was playing like he was 5'9" tonight!  Awesome!  J/k - I for one have been very happy that he returned to the team - he has been a tremendous help all year.
Go Lil Mo!

Let's not go crazy, Devan Downey had 30 points tonight (on 29 shots and 11 free throws...)  ;)

DomJamesToTheBasket

He's obviously on FIRE.  He will continue to be a boost as long as he doesn't force shots.  Lazar, DJO, and Butler are the only guys I endorse for being ultra-agressive looking for shots......

I'll be the first to admit how wrong I was when I gave up on this team pre-season when JC went down and suddenly MA was back on the roster.

Obviously, this team has a lot of weaknesses in lack of size and depth, but the play of MA and DC has been a real suprise (at least to me).  Who would have thought that a team starting both MA and DC could be competitive in the Big East?

A real credit to the hard work of both players -- and to Buzz's creativity.  What a season this could have been had it not been for the injuries and defections.  Regardless of record, this team will rank among my favorites due to the effort and execution on the court.

Big Papi

Acker is 18-23 in 3 point shooting in Big East play.  That is crazy, red hot shooting!!!!!!  78%.  And last year at this point in time he only made 1 and that was a near halfcourt shot launched just before halftime.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

Apparently Devin Downey is only 1" taller and look at what he did yesterday.

Skitch

I watched the game and realized Downey did plenty besides scoring, but everyone keeps focusing on the 30 points.  Is 30 points really that impressive if you take 29 shots?  Just curious what others think.

Didn't see the game, but no. It's not. If you're taking 29 shots, you're bound to get fouled. Chances are, some of those 30 came from the free throw line, meaning the guy probably shot about 30% from the floor, at best. Hell, give me 30 shots in a D1 game and I'm bound to make 7 or 8 of them.

Acker was known as both Mo Mo and Junior Mint on the playgrounds of Chicago.

Downey's 30 points came on 29 field goal attempts and 11 free throw attempts.

I only saw the last 4 minutes or so, but it was impressive - Kentucky's great at pretty much every position, and still 5'9" Downey made circus shots and drew contact, in addition to breaking UK's press.  He also only turned the ball over twice despite touching the ball about as much as the rest of his team combined.

That said, it's probably not that much different from non-major teams that get a talented guard who takes over the team... Curry at Davidson, Ben Woodside at North Dakota State, Patty Mills at St. Mary's... and, likely, what Acker would've been had he stayed at Ball State.

Junior Mint was much better at dominating a game through his junior year than Jerel. Jerel really came on strong as a senior. Until then, Junior Mint was the money guy.

9-29 from the field I believe.  11 FTs

Junior Mint has proven himself worthy enough. This is a man who tamed the mean streets of Chi-Town. He has now done the same in the nation's toughest basketball conference. Junior Mint has earned our respect, even if given grudgingly. Stand and Deliver!

Again, didn't see the game, but that stat line is somewhat less than overwhelming. 30pts is great, but at what cost? Purely anecdotally, you don't see many teams win when one guy shoots 30times.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

He was clutch at the end.  It was Wall v. Downey it seemed.  Both did great, but Downey came out on top.  I remember reading something about this being a guard's game...

Murffieus

Murf was the only Acker backer in the universe prior to the season. Currently he's #1 in BE trey shooting percentage, #4 in FG shooting percentage, and # 3 in assist/TO ratio (3.5 to 1).

tower912

Blind squirrel, meet acorn.    Broken clock, meet correct time (2x a day).     Actually, congrats, Murf.    He has far exceeded most of our expectations.

Jacks DC

Buzz's best recruit in the offseason was getting Acker to come out of retirement for one more year.  Just like...no I won't say it.

Blame Obama.  I think he got into Wall's head.
