at the game. There was no replay or explanation

flagrant foul. new rule this year allows refs to use replay to see if foul is flagrant or not

purposeful forearm to the chin of Fucle... my guess in retaliation for last year in Providence against Xavier

muole

ditto dano

just like a pitcher plunking someone in a game the following season for something that happened the previous season.

If it's a retaliation thing, why have your best player do it?  Which probably means Peterson and Fulce were scrapping at each other and got caught up in it.

It cannot be a coincidence.  Didn't have to be issued from the bench.  Maybe Peterson took it upon himself?

romey

Well, it sure screwed then out of any chance they had to win this one.

Mike Kelly kept referring to something that happened prior to the time out that preceded the elbow.  They never elaborated on what happened between the two.  Oh well.  Rough game.  Cubillan and Buycks were laughing at Acker when he showed them his tooth.  It was pretty funny.

Intentional and Blatant.   My first thought was whether it was retaliation.     We deserved a win like this.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

Is this now the third straight strange incident we have had with Providence?

The other interesting thing was that Fulce's lip was already damaged prior to the flagrant elbow foul (the announcers pointed this out).  So I wonder how / when that occurred, and was it "more retaliation"?
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

wardle2wade

Definitely a flagrant and worthy of an ejection.

Before seeing the replay, you could tell there was something cheap involved.  Fulce was fuming... he's a passionate player, but it was very uncharacteristic considering how positive his demeanor usually is.

MR.HAYWARD

fulce elbowed him on the possesion before, however in fulces case it was an inadvertant elbow while going for a loose ball...that is simply part of the game....then the guy chases after fulce and rub down and thows a roundhouse elbow.  not a retaliation from  last year in any way, shape, or form.  a reatliation from the play before.

Yup...just a bonehead play.  Providence is in trouble if their best player is that dumb.

From what I saw today, all the way around, PC is in trouble. That, alone, speaks volumes as to the state of DePaul basketball.

I know there was Jonathan Xavier last year but I don't recall anything before that  ?-(

Well, there's this:
QuoteProvidence's Jeff Xavier was called for an intentional foul against James, who clutched his right ankle after appearing to roll on it. But James shook it off, hit both free throws and then drained a 3-pointer to make it a five-point trip and give the Golden Eagles a 63-37 lead with just under 14 minutes to play.
Four minutes later, McDermott and McNeal battled for the ball and kept going after the whistle blew, both drawing technical fouls as they stood toe-to-toe even though McNeal patted McDermott as they were being separated with the Golden Eagles up 66-42.

I might be confusing teams.  Maybe it was Seton Hall with with the harsh foul on DJ that I am thinking about.
