The Score (Sports talk radio in Chicago, 670AM) is reporting a rumour that Lovie Smith is being considered to replace Lane Kifflin as the University of Tennessee Head Football Coach.

Come on UT, close the deal!

MU B2002

I can only hope.

This rumor was on CNNSI this morning as well, based on the fact Lovie is already on the hot seat.  Maybe this is why they are stalling hiring an OC, hoping to be in the market for a head coach.

Or their target is a coordinator for a team still in the playoffs...

As a Packers fan, I'd like Lovie to stay awhile longer

Mike McCarthy would not let them interview their second choice for OC.  It is rumored that Thompson was willing to let him go but McCarthy hit the roof and nixed it.

What's up with that?  I thought that you couldn't prevent a coach from interviewing for a promotion.

Only to head coach...a QB coach to OC who is still under contract needs permission.

The Bears had done their homework on Clements, who is signed through 2010, contacting three quarterbacks he has worked with for a reference, including Minnesota's Brett Favre and the Packers' Aaron Rodgers. Teams only have to grant permission for coaches under contract to interview for jobs when it is for a head-coaching position.

Well, that's one way for Lovie to upgrade his talent.  ;D

This isn't even a rumor, there's nothing to this. This is all Florio just throwing something out there on his website, there's zero chance of this happening. UT hasn't inquired, Lovie hasn't asked.

Yes, and Bobby Petrino left Atlanta for Arkansas.

So I listen to ESPN Chicago every morning and the news is that this is now true as Tennessee has been spurned by so many coaches in such a short amount of time. They have said that Tennessee is flying Lovie to their campus for an interview... not sure on the truth of it but here is a story from ESPN:

He was an assistant at LSU and the Dolphins under Saban.  Spent two years as an attorney before getting into coaching.  Now the head coach at La. Tech and he is the favorite....they are also saying that the Houston head coach is still somewhat in the mix.
