Looks like those close losses are helping us more than hurting us

Another observation from the polls is that Georgetown moved up from 12 to 11 this week.  They had a big win at home against UConn and lots of teams lost.  However, it is nice to see that losing to MU at the Bradley Center this year is not a detrimental loss to a team's reputation.

Appears these "moral victories" haven't gone for naught.

A wisecrack poster might say something like

Do we get a banner or trophy for this?

But I won't got there.   ;)

Nice to see some votes.  Moving in the right direction, but they need a nice road win eventually.  At Syr, UConn, or Cincy would do it, IMO.

If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we would be receiving votes for the Top 25 in the middle of January while only having won against Georgetown I would have laughed pretty hard.

I know it doesn't mean much, but Marquette got 2 votes in ESPN/USA Today poll, and 9 in AP poll.

I was thinking that in order to keep either G-Town or UCONN in the top 20 (there was no way that both of them would fall out), MU had to get a little love to make the AP poll logically sound.

At least the national writers are noticing that there's something more to MU's 1-3 BE record.  Hopefully the committee will notice the same when the time comes (assuming MU takes care of business).
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

This is why I laugh when people say that they don't believe in moral victories.  They are worth about .3 of a win.

It's funny; my wife asked me in all seriousness late Saturday whether we would be ranked and I laughed at her. Then again, us getting votes is not as absurd as someone voting for Kevin Appier for the Hall of Fame last week.

Hey, it's not his fault he pitched for the Royals.
He played well but lost a lot of close games.

A little off topic but along the same lines of people noticing these games we are in.

Three things you should know before you go

Buzz Williams' Golden Eagles have dropped three heartbreakers. (US Presswire)    1. Marquette's Buzz Williams almost won another game he probably shouldn't be almost winning, which was impressive. But I can't imagine that makes things any easier. Saturday's 78-76 loss to Villanova dropped the Golden Eagles to 1-3 in the Big East. The three losses are 78-76 to Villanova, 74-72 to Villanova and 63-62 to West Virginia. The lone win was a 62-59 win over Georgetown. So if you like tight games, Marquette is the team for you.

According to Pollstalker... MU only got one vote this week, and that vote was from Jon Wilner (who has a reputation for being an "extreme" voter, i.e. ranking teams much higher or lower than the rest of the voters) who put the Warriors at #17.

I was hoping MU would have received a few #25 votes, maybe a #24 from multiple voters instead of one "extreme" vote at #17.  Perhaps the national writers aren't as tuned into what's been happening with the Warriors over the past two weeks as I had hoped, or maybe a loss is indeed a loss.

http://www.pollspeak.com/pollstalker/pollstalker.php?s=10&p=20&t1=122&t2=&v=35&w=10&r=V

Fortunately, the AP's opinion doesn't matter to the selection committee and MU will definitely have ample opportunity to prove whether or not they belong on the big board down in Indy* come March.

*Referring to the committee, not the Final Four.

More votes than the Pac 10?
