The absolute perfect situation....intentional foul, we make both, trail by two, no shot clock, coming out of a timeout to set something up, we have the ball and we can't even get a shot off (not the first time that's happened in the last 5 years).

Arghhhh

Clam Crowder

Acker cost us that game with that dumb pass to Butler who was covered tightly, and then he apparently cant make a layup. Buycks on the other hand missed that wide open 3. tough way to lose, but great comeback

tower912

Acker fed the post for the first time all day and then followed the ball, allowing his man to get a free double team on Butler, who looked like he couldn't remember what to do when he got the ball 8 feet from the hoop with his back to the basket.    *^#$%#$@#^5

Agreed.  Acker gave the ball to Butler in a no-win situation.

They looked totally lost out there on that play...like nobody knew what the plan was.

Does Buzz deserve some blame for all this late game futility?  At some point you can't just say it's bad luck when it's happening (almost) every time.

Maybe not getting down by 22 points could have helped as well....just saying.

No way of knowing if MU makes a shot at the end so I'm never going to blame one player for a game.  It's just frustrating not to even get a shot off, and it's not the first time unfortunately.

Great comeback.  Next two games MU should win easily.  That will put us at 3-3

WellsstreetWanderer

Frustrating, again...   Great comeback though but when you dig such a big hole it is difficult to get out

My wife walks in the room just say MU inbounds the ball after the intentional and watches the play and just says "why would he pass it to Jimmy.  He's surrounded".

Sometime her analysis is best.

Great comeback, another tough loss, but proof that this team has some fight in it

Don't look past the next games.  Easy to get over confident.  Play each game one at a time.  Prepare and play hard.  Go Marquette!

I love Butler, but he always seems to have the deer in headlights look in the last minute of a close game.

Spaniel with a Short Tail

Not Butler's fault he was given the ball in an instant double team.

Except the 2 free throws he hit in the last 10 seconds against G'town.

What was the play at the end?  I agree, Butler looked surprised to get the ball.  I'd love to know what the play was.  No screens up top, didn't look like we were playing to win it (with a 3) but rather to tie with a 2.

No one looked like they wanted the ball nor did a play appear to be developing.  Maybe Nova took away all the options, but everyone looked lost.

So, it boils down to MU not being able to climax?

I have a feeling that Acker went off of the script.   I have to imagine the last thing Buzz was thinking was for Mo to drive and dish to a double teamed JB.   Then it looked like Jimmy was making his move and getting ready to dish opposite for the triple when he got stripped.   Plus, the way Mo did it brought Reynolds to Jimmy.    Worst case scenario.

You can't just jump from bad luck to putting it on Buzz. The players need to execute. It appears that Butler didn't expect Acker to dump it in to him at that point, leading me to think that maybe that wasn't the play as planned during the timeout. Acker didn't execute. Can't put it on Buzz.

Maybe Buzz will tell us in the post game show

Mobot

The pass into Bulter was fine.  He could have passed it back out after the double team but instead tried to dribble into the middle of the lane and had it stolen away.

Well, that's been the outlier in close games this year - we've lost all the other ones. Like I said, I like Butler, I just wish he was a little more aggressive at the end and was one of those ones that "want the ball." He may very well want it for all I know, but his face expressions are always so stoic.

Should have shot a three for the lead

The dude who just needs to learn to relax is DJO. Just play, don't think so much.

Um, what?

BrewCity83

I suspect the plan for the last play was to work down most of the 27 seconds, get a paint touch, and kick it out for an open three in the last 5 to 7 seconds.

why not call a to to set up a play?  Afterall, a W could have put us in the tourney.

We were coming out of a timeout where the play was setup.  Either the option was taken away, or the kids didn't know what to do, or it wasn't executed properly.

Whatever the case, no shot was taken.  Butler got the ball down low, then dribbled back across the lane and got it swiped.

We did have another T.O. if we wanted to take it.
