Washington Wizards guards Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the locker room.  Arenas had three guns in his locker!

This is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I don't get professional athletes' need to make unnecessary trouble. If the investigation reveals the true events were anything close to what is reported, Arenas is done for his career, imo.

What separates this from some of the college programs. Overall, pro athletes get in less trouble than college players. How many of our former recruit or committed players have committed crimes in the last 2 years.....And we have one of the better programs.

The numbers alone would suggest that college players get into more trouble... there are over 340 D-I programs and only 30 NBA teams.  Saying that college players get into more trouble is like saying there's more crime in New York City than in Reno, NV.

Additionally... is stealing a laptop on par with pulling a gun on a teammate (or anyone for that matter)?  It seems to me when the college kids get into trouble, 90% of the time it's property-related issues (e.g. stealing/shoplifting) or misdemeanor battery (fights not resulting in major bodily harm).  When pro players get into trouble, it seems that 90% of the time there are guns involved.

Finally, keep in mind that pro players also have access to the best criminal defense attorneys money can buy, and believe it or not, that could deter the police or DA from charging someone unless they are 99% certain they can get a conviction (aside from the fact that there is simply a different standard for pro athletes and celebrities who break the law).  So while it may seem that some pro players are keeping their noses clean, it may be the case that they are simply not be charged for their misdeeds.

You bring up sample size, and I was just comparing the players MU have recruited the past few years. These incidents range from rape (he admitted to doing atleast some acts), theft, and, IIRC, assaulting an off-duty police officer. As much as the NBA has a smaller sample, you are more likely to hear about it because they are pro's. A lot of college stuff gets swept under the rug or a player most in the nation know get kicked off the team.

I can't think of one player on the Bucks roster that has gotten into any legal trouble what so ever. Bogut, Redd, Bell and others are as clean as they come.

The only story I read was that an argument began over a gambling debt on the team charter, and then broke out again in the lockerroom.  At which point areans placed 3 guns on the chair and told Crittenton to pick one.  Crittenton  declined and instead pulled his own.  Now this is of course, unconfirmed, but if this is anywhere near the acutal events I would think this is far from a joke.

Yes, size matters but you also have to compare it to things you hear about. A recruit gets charged with rape, we remember it but no one else does. Kobe Bryant gets charged and the whole world hears about it, literally. I just get sick of people thinking college basketball is so pure, plays defense, shoots better, etc. It's a great game but it doesn't mean it so much better than other leagues.

We run a pretty clean program but we have our share of active players getting in trouble. You can't find idiots everywhere.

I never said that "college players don't get in trouble because of guns and drugs."  Furthermore, I never addressed the specifics of the Arenas situation, so I'm not making "it seem" anything.

All I was doing was pointing out how your "pro athletes get in less trouble than college players" statement (as well as you implying that pro athletes are "cleaner" than college athletes) is flawed at best and grossly inaccurate at worst.

With the league prepared to let the legal process advance before making its own ruling, Arenas forced the new timetable by continuously mocking a very serious situation. For all the players who have made regrettable and even criminal decisions, it is impossible to remember anyone who so blatantly laughed in the face of common sense with a series of actions the way he did with John Wayne references on Twitter and the historically stupid move Tuesday to pantomime firing on teammates as they gathered in the pre-game circle.

Now there is a photo of the Wizards laughing at Arenas doing his shoot-um-up thing with his fingers.  David Stern is now going to fine every player in the photo who is smiling.  In addition he is trying to keep the photo from being widely released.
