I hope you're not talking about George Thompson. He's the best!

Cut them a little slack, that is Steve True and George Thompson, our second all-time leading scorer.  When I went to Marquette and we weren't on television a lot we listened to George for every away game.  They are not perfect but they will grow on you.

Dude you cannot dis George Thompson.  The guy works "matriculate" into a basketball game better than anyone.  He is THE man and unfortunately the powers that be decided they wanted Jimmy Mac to make it a 3 man broadcast.  I am not a fan of change and I miss GT.

My favorite was when MU went to the NIT final four and Homer said to George maybe we could see your old neighborhood and George told him "Homer you may want to avoid my old neighborhood".

There are new powers that be at the MU basketball offices.

Homer is awful at two things.
1) hosting a radio show as he's the most ill-prepared one in history
2) calling mu games

George was a great player and is a great representative of the university.  But he is and alway has been a terrible announcer.

I think GT is good and adds alot as I do with big Mac whom I think is more thorough. Different styles, as far as Homer he needs to learn he is irritating at times and never shouts up as he interrupts people on his show all the time. I think when he is on the radio he feels like he is Vitale who's style turns many often. Too loud and trying to get attention rather then broadcast the game etc. MHO

Jimmy Mac's Wisconsin accent is too thick.

I am fully aware of George Thompson's place and importance in the history of MU basketball.  He has my complete respect and admiration for what he did in an MU uniform.  That said, in my opinion, he is completely out of his league annoucing basketball games.  His "colorful" sayings might mean something to him (at least I hope they do), but I prefer to not have to sit there and translate what he could possibly be describing while listening to the game on the radio.  I believe the last time I attempted a cartwheel was when I heard that Jimmy Mac was replacing GT on the radio.

Jimmy Mac makes intelligent comments that actually describe what is going on in the game.  I suppose it helps that most of his non-basketball comments are more about my generation, but that isn't the only thing I like about him.  I think I know more about basketball after listening to Jimmy Mac.  Let's just say, Al McGuire may have passed on many things to GT about basketball, but not about announcing.

"At this juncture of the " thread.....you have to look at Homer and George like Jim Irwin and Max McGee. Don't expect accuracy or information, just try to enjoy the ride.

You're thinking of the Upper Michigan accent

Clearly you haven't spent too much time in Cudahy.

Try listening to the nerds doing Badger BB games.  Totally boring...like listening to a grass-growing competition............

Your kidding right???? At least I hope so. Matt Lepay and Mike Lucas are the best commentators in the state, behind Ucker. They are head and shoulders better than Homer and GT or Mac. They are in a class of their own when in come to calling Basketball and Football games.

MUfan12

Lepay is very good, Lucas is a hack.

I wish Lepay would have gotten the Packers radio gig instead of Larrivee.

My favorite Larrivee memory is when he had laryngitis and sounded like he was going to die through an entire game broadcast. Pathetic that they couldn't find a replacement or he wouldn't allow one.
