There's a reason I haven't commented in any of the threads this evening. I know nothing. Let's just see how this all shakes out.

foreverwarriors

now I am really confused! for all the crap I have heard about Jeronne's father and how this was all engineered by him, this throws a whole different light on the situation!

QuoteMADISON, Wis. -- Former Madison Memorial Spartan Jeronne Maymon has left the Marquette basketball team just games into his freshman season. Marquette head coach Buzz Williams confirmed that Maymon has decided to leave the program.

Tim Maymon told WISC-TV that news of his son's decision was a surprise to him and that he was heading to Milwaukee to try and find out more about the situation. Tim said Jeronne is doing well in school and is "loving every minute of being there."

Maymon was Williams' first recruit at Marquette and in Maymon's first season with the Golden Eagles, he was averaging four points and 4.2 rebounds a game. Maymon scored four points in 22 minutes against Wisconsin on Saturday at the Kohl Center.

There have been rumblings that Maymon might be transferring to Tennessee, but so far those are just rumors. Tim Maymon said his son is not transferring to Tennessee or any other university.

So what about Spartan senior and Maymon's friend Vander Blue who was going to join Maymon next season at Marquette? Blue's mother, Rita tells Mark Miller at wishoops.net that "Vander is going to Marquette, end of story."

Good find! - I thought it deserved more than a "READ THIS"  :)

So if there's any truth to Maymon not transferring "to any other university" as Tim Mayman says, then what is going on? Either dad doesn't know what is going on, Jeronne made an irrational decision, or its just a front for the time being.

The following is pure speculation but let's assume that Tim Maymon didn't know about this and assume that Jeronne is getting adequate grades.  This leaves only 1) disciplinary issues/character issues or 2) dissatisfaction about his role which he didn't share with his dad.   I would say 2 is very unlikely.  That leaves 1..

Remember at the start of the season after boot camp Buzz mentioned almost jokingly that Jeronne was ready to get back on the bus to Madison after the first day of camp.  I would be willing to bet that it is a question of attitude and willingness to buy into the concept of sacrificing individual wants and needs and doing what you need to do to win.  Jeronne may have a bit of Derrick Caracter in him.

Somebody else posted on another thread that he wouldn't be leaving if Liam McMorrow and Chris Otule were healthy.  I would disagree and say that he would be leaving anyway as he wouldn't be getting nearly as much playing time.

Let's see, the truth will come out.

Then why is he continually referred to by Buzz as "the most unselfish player on the team" and even "too unselfish"?  Not much you can do if he continually acts unselfish but the whole time is secretly frustrated that he isn't getting what he wants.

I wonder if there's any chance Jerome tried pushing his hand on Buzz in some fashion, and Buzz called his bluff to prove a point.  I'll be interested to hear how this plays out in the next couple days.  Could it be that Buzz is waiting till Thursday to comment because he wants to give the kid a chance to come around?

That does seem to be a contradiction doesn't it?  I did say my post is pure speculation on my part but is based on a few comments by Buzz and what I observed as what looks like pouting many times when Jeronne gets pulled from a game.  I really don't think any of us knows what is going on in the mind of this 18-year-old kid.   I hope he can straighten himself out attitude-wise whether here or at another program.

Though highly doubtful, I personally feel (based off the recent comments by Tim Maymon about his being unaware of the news) as though perhaps he will come around and stay at MU after all.

What do you all think? Any chance that he "re-joins," like with what happened to Acker?

Father issues, attitude issues aside- I personally had high hopes and expectations for Jeronne both in the future and this season. Is his reinstatement an unrealistic dream or a possibility?

That's what I'm hoping... I certainly understand why it makes sense to avoid speculation and get the facts, but this whole thing came out of nowhere.  Hopefully Tim Maymon works his magic on Jeronne and he sticks w/ MU.

If he re-joins, I'll pretend the whole thing didn't happen!

Well if that's the case, why in the hell did Marquette put out a press release?  It happens all the time that players get homesick, get frustrated, whatever....quit the team for a few days.  We just never hear about it, happens at schools all the time.

But when we put out a press release like that, it makes it essentially final.

MU also put out a press release saying Mo quit the team... but I swear I saw him on the court Saturday.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Hopefully Dad can right the situation.  Sometimes 18-22 year olds make bad decisions at the spur of the moment.  Much like 40 year olds on a forum.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

See I was wondering if the press release was intentional.  Sort of a way for Maymon to really think about what he has done once he sees it in print on various media outlets.

I wouldn't be particularly happy if Buzz airs dirty laundry in the media as a way to gain leverage with an 18 year old kid.

And I'm sure you know there was a bit more to Mo's dismissal then "quitting" the team........

It's called being a man Chicos.

people dont quit things without a great deal of frustration.  90% or greater of freshman bball players consider quittng numerous times.  Most likely this is not the firts time Jerrone has considered it.  Possibly he voice his displeasure and said he was quitting and Buzz took a man's word as a man's word and said fine we will release it then.  He either stays gone or he learns his lesson that when you say you quit it is a really big deal.

based on the quotes you make on this board character and being held accountable are probably two things you know very little about.  OBTW I asked you a couple questions in a previous post that you continue to ignore

Could be, but that would be mighty ballsy of Buzz to do.  Puts a ton of pressure on the kid and causes the firestorm that has been caused in the last 12 hours.  I would be surprised if that's the case, but you never know.

If he's back on the team and this is all a motivational ploy, I think Buzz better have a sit down with the higher ups and find better, less public ways to make his point to a kid.

Thank God this thread turned into Hayward vs Chicos so I can ignore it for the rest of the day... otherwise I would have kept checking back all day for updates about Maymon.

Now I know this is just going to be a debate about Buzz, Tom Crean, and eventually Kevin O'Neil. Awesome.

Don't forget about Mike Deane's post-game alcohol-fueled behavior issues

Hayward, we agree....kids considering transferring all the time, many out of frustration.  Most schools and coaches use common sense and apply a standard "cooling off period" and you keep it within the organization.  When you put out a press release, that opens it up to the world, all the speculation, all the rumors, all the spin.  I don't think this has anything to do with being a man, I sure hope it wasn't done to prove a point in the press as I think that will come back to haunt Buzz and the program.  Praise in public, pummel in private...I don't know if you've heard that expression but that applies for coaching and management all the time.

Or, sometimes you say enough is enough and some things are not worth all the trouble and you move on from a client, co-worker, girl friend, player, etc.  Maybe Buzz had enough and if JM wants to play for MU it will be on Buzz's terms.  I have no problem if that is the case.  I am speculating, of course, but I do wish JM well and hope he stays at MU.  But either way, I hope he becomes the man he is capable of becoming.
