Flipping through the channels today I saw MU v UW highlights on the Big Ten Network.  The announcer (did not catch his name) said MU v UW is one of the best NON-CONFERENCE rivalries in basketball and certainly for a Big Ten team.

Do you agree?  I think he might be correct.

The only NON-CONFERENCE rivalries I can think that might approach MU v UW are Kentucky/Louisville and ND/IU

But I like to throw handfuls...

kentucky and the ville

edit: sorry i did not see you had already mentioned it

The thing about the MU UW rivalry is that it has been going on a consistent basis since 1917. I have been told our Dental School fielded a team at the turn of the century and that it lost to the Milwaukee Normal School team but, since those two schools have yet to play again, it can hardly be considered a rivalry.

It's up there but all of the ones mentioned previously are bigger.  These ones are pretty big too...

Memphis vs. Tennessee
Georgia vs. Georgia Tech
South Carolina vs. Clemson

Philly's Big 5.

+1

The Big 5 is easily one of the biggest rivalries in college sports...it may have been a little lopsided as of late, but hey...Temple beat Villanova today.  The sign of a great rivalry is when even "lesser" teams can step it up to win in these big games.

Philly's Big 5.

Roger the Big 5. I think this is the best for many reasons. I flew with a guy who played on Penn's Final Four team. Of course he talked about going up against Magic but he spoke more about the Big 5 and the Palestra.
