Just watching online...lots of empty seats between the rings, 10-20 rows up.  C'mon people, give 'em away if you can't/won't go!

murocky01

Just give the MU regulars a chance to finish their beers at Turners.  Its early.

PuertoRicanNightmare

You gotta admit, people aren't beating down the door to go see Rutgers. I know I got rid of my tickets. It's just not worth the drive up

Mayor McCheese

I saw that too, I know if I was a student at MU though, I would go to every game, just for the atmosphere, instead I go to a DIII school, and go to no basketball games  :)

Well, not from Tampa  :)

spartan3186

There were a ton of no-shows especially in the student section... it was kinda strange especially for the conference season, hell there were more people at the hillsdale college game than there were at this game

spiral97

box score lists attendance at 17,194

hillsdale game only yielded 12,464.......
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

TVDirector

uh, yeah.. 17k, right.
maybe 12?
maybe

good vocal crowd tho

Sir Lawrence

I thought it was an OK crowd--more in the upper bowl than I expected.  Very late arriving, both for the beginning of the game and the start of the half.  Fantastic half time show--a drum line from one of the local high schools.
Ludum habemus.

mu_hilltopper

17,194?  Unreal.  I'm really surprised by that number .. you figure the STH+Students gives you 12k .. that means 5k of tickets were single-seat/walkups?  That would shock me, as there were thousands of no-shows.  I'm guessing lots of tickets were given away.

I'd guess under 11k were there.

BigSky

There is a difference between paid attendance and actuall fannies in the seats.

PuertoRicanNightmare

What was the announced attendance at the Providence game? There were a lot of empty seats in the end zones and corners for that one as well.

MUfan12

PC attendance was 18,920

Tonight was MPS night, a ton of tickets must have gone unused.

muwarrior87

I gave mine away, Wed games are the only ones i cant make cuz of meetings...otherwise i'm there every game, and some road games too...so i'm doing my part.

maxpower773

Good thing this was the last Wed game and there's only one Monday game. Its not a great night for students apparently...I could care less even if i have 2 quizzes and a test tomorrow. At least the bottom bowl for students was basically full...again with seats missing here and there. And do they ever announce the actual amount of people there, not total ticket sales for a game?

TJ

Sorry - I had every intention of going, but with the snow yesterday and the fact that it was Rutgers and that we have 4 really good games coming up to make up for missing this mediocre one ... I decided not to make the drive up from Chicago.  I'm towards the top of the upper level corner though, so you probably couldn't notice my absence on tv.

On a Wednesday night against Rutgers - I'm guessing a bunch of ticket holders felt the same way.  I won't miss another one, I promise.

See, but that's the mystery.  The STHs showed up .. the lower bowl was it's usual 90-95% full.  The mystery is that the floor is about 12k of students+STHs, so that means 5k tickets were sold as singles, and a huge chunk of those seats weren't filled.  -- A guess would be that MU gave away 3-4k seats to community groups, who didn't show...???  No idea.

Great point.  If you think you have it tought with two test and quizzes in a particular day, I want you to imagine what it is like for a basketball player who has the same amount of test and quizzes that you do, except he actually has to play the damn game and give all his energy to that game.  The least students could do is sit their ass in a chair for 2 freaking hours.
If you ask me this is the worst student section in yearsssss!!!!!

Even when we had a Brian Wardle we were small student section, but we were loud. and the actual ticket holders always showed up

Nope.  You announce tickets sold.

Trust me, the basketball players aren't taking the same type of tests and quizzes most students take.

Everyone is so quick to judge and forget how it was when they went to school.  My first year, DWade's first year, the student section was horrible until about halfway through the year when people started to realized they were pretty good.  I remember getting to games like 10 minutes before tip and being able to sit in the lower bowl for most games (except Louisville and Cinci).  I think the student section has been fine this year, no better or worse than the past couple of years but not quite as good as the final four season.

back in my day i'd walk through 8 feet of snow at noon to get seats for the utah valley state game. the student section support was so strong that this type of preparation would still barely get me at the back of the upper deck. Back then the 100,000 capacity Bradley Center didn't have a roof, so we'd be sitting there in the -100 degree weather enjoying our concessions of dirt and unfiltered lake michigan water. The student section cheered so loud, the U.S. Bank building 6 blocks away had to have their windows replaced 3 times because the decibel level shattered them. After the game, I'd fight off 12 foot fire breathing dragons along wisconsin avenue to get back to my lean-to in the central mall, we didn't have dorms. Then I'd write for 15 hours with no breaks for my introductory english class weekly 50 page paper.
.....you kids got it made now

Here's some attendance figures for home games over the past ten years with the national attendance rank in perenthesis.  My freshman year, '99-'00 was the lowest by over a thousand fans.  It makes me really appreciate how much better we are now in terms of fan support, though I still think '02-'03 and '03-'04 was better.

1997 12,248 (28)
1998 11,508 (27)
1999 11,903 (28)
2000   9,971 (42)
2001 11,194 (31)
2002 12,680 (21)
2003 15,553 (11)
2004 15,291 (12)
2005 11,965 (21)
2006 13,998 (18)
2007 14,765 To Date
