For a team that thrives on unselfishness, we cannot compete when we have only 5 assists for the game. Our seniors reminded me of McNeal when DJ went down. Our 2 senior guards were 1-9 from the field with only 4 points. I expect Buzz will read the riot act but his in game management was suspect. Fortunately it wasn't a BE game and hopefully we learn from our mistakes but this game should have been a W.

Cubillan and Acker had terrible nights offensively and Butler missed eight free throws. So we don't go unbeaten. I'd rather lose this one and win at Wisconsin.

we stopped playing. They thought they had already won the game. That along with JB's free throw misses really sealed the deal. You HAVE to play hard all the way thru. They didnt and thats why they lost.

We stopped playing probably because of fatigue and maybe trying to milk the clock.

But we didn't make the adjustments that were necessary until the game was tied.
But by then momentum was on their side.

We were up 17.  A solid defensive game the rest of the way would have won it.  We gave up 35 points in the last 15 minutes.  Doesn't sound too bad, but when you only score 56 points yourself, that pretty much seals the deal.

Well that is my point. MU stopped being aggressive and tried milking the clock and slowing it up. Thats exactly how you blow a lead. Instead of attacking more and actually putting the game beyond doubt they slowed up. They needed to have that killer instinct and put the game away. To be honest another four minutes of hard play and they could have comfortably relaxed and slowed up then. But as soon as any team becomes relaxed and slows up, I feel its just asking the other team to come back

mu_hilltopper

Disagree.  They played plenty hard.   We played 6 guys .. our bench had 2 points.

The guys we were playing were on the court a ton, and had already played 2 games in 3 days.   -- On top of that, FSU started playing up to their ability in the last 15 of the game.

MU played plenty hard.  Ran out of gas, came up short.

I don't think they relaxed, I think they just wore out.  It takes a ton of energy to play that kind of in your face defense and help all over the court.  We've got a short bench.  If you have to play 3 games in four days and only go 7 deep in the final game that is the risk you take. luckily that situation doesn't happen much
Hey we took a very talented and very deep team to a last second shot.  Sorry we lost but we played well.

DJO had an awesome game, that's for sure.

Yeah I hear ya. It makes sense that they got tired. Just wish they could have dug deep for just a few more minutes as I feel that would have sealed the deal, but thats silly of me to ask that. I have no idea how hard it is palying out there. They fought hard I agree. I wasnt questioning that, just playing the What-if game I guess.

Lazar and Jimmy were getting banged around all game - and going up against the bigs - they were definitely gassed, as was the whole team towards the end.  We need a 20 man rotation and hopefully we will get that soon.

BINGO!!!  DJO is going to be our best player before the year is over.  Someone else made a good point..not sure if in this thread or another...but when DJO was obviously hot in the first half, we should have rode him for all we could.  Let him do the "heat check" thing.  Granted it was the unselfish play for DJO to try to pass to Buycks at the end of the game...but I would have rather he just do the pull up jumper/take the last shot.  We need to establish him as our designated end of game shooter.

Why didn't Buzz have Lazar foul that big guy when he got the ball in the post for their game winning shot?

Is that really a serious question?
