Dan (madison): Who do you like winning the Big East, Marquette or Pitt?

Doug Gottlieb: In terms of rankings, Marquette beat Pitt at Pitt, so I see Marquette a better team. I think Pitt will win the league.

Are we the better team? Right now, maybe. It's so close that it's impossible to really say who's "better." As much as I hate to say it, I'm afraid I might agree with his prediction that Pitt will win the BE. I really can't see them losing twice more. Even if we win out, and they win the rest of their games (except 3/3), then we'd split the regular season title even though we would have beaten Pitt twice. That said, this weekend at GTown scares me, and the return matchup with Pitt is by no means a guaranteed W. Heart says 14-2, BE (split) champs, head says 12-4, 3rd place.

They have games left @WVU, @Georgetown, @Marquette. If I were a betting man, I'd say they lose at least 2 of those. We win our next two games, the conference is ours to lose. I think Pitt is a bit of a paper tiger as they have been so many of the past several years. Thet are a good team, but I've scoured their schedule looking for the impresive wins to justify comments like yours and I really can't find them. @ Villanova? Maybe. @ Syracuse? Perhaps. Then again those teams are a combined 9-10 in conference.

Originally hailing from Orange County, California, Gottlieb was the Orange County Player of the Year in 1995. Gottlieb was recruited by Notre Dame, and was the starting point guard for Notre Dame during the 1995-1996 college basketball season. He started all but four games for Notre Dame during that season. In 1996, during Gottlieb's freshman year at Notre Dame, he stole credit cards from a roommate and ran up $900 worth of charges. He was kicked off the Notre Dame basketball team and eventually convicted of fraud.[

Plus, his grammar is inexcusable. Those chats are seriously very difficult to read. Sometimes, I can't understand anything he is saying due to misspelled words and incomplete sentences. If only he had stayed at ND for 4 years, I'm sure he would have improved his basic skills.

At times, my grammar can also be inexcusable.

I'm torn between two replies to this...
1.) "Are you really sure about this?  :-\"
or
2.) "such as...... sucking on the long end of the happy smoke? ::)"

both apply. ;)

I normally hate people who point out typos, but given the context of the post, it made me laugh.

Why would we split the title if we had identical records and beat them twice?  Isn't head to head the ultimate tiebreaker?

There is no tiebreaker for the Big East regular season title.  If we end up tied with Pitt, we share the regular season title with them.

There is a tiebreaker to determine the top seed in the Big East Tournament.  If we beat Pitt both games, but still end up tied with them, we will be the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament.
