Not sure if anyone posted here about this yet but i feel the injury is ok. I never like to see injuries but lets face it mu fans as much as i hate to say it we arent going anywhere this year. We need to get the medical redshirt on him and have him healthy when vanderblue is around with the other core players when marquette is more mature in a few years and makes a deep run in the tournament.

I think you are saying that you pray that Lazar gets hurt and medically redshirts in the near future as well?  If redshirting was a better option for this season, then guess what? -- we would have redshirted him.

+1.  Now that's how to use the open scholarship.

Having Otule hurt this year hurts us this year, next year, and maybe/probably a little the year after as far as his development goes.  While it may be nice come 2012-2013 to have him as a fifth year senior, it's still a heavy price to pay in the meantime.

Its obvious you 2 fail to see what i was getting at

I think we're wildly overestimating what Otule was going to give us, which was a few minutes of hopefully not disastrous play in the middle and five fouls.  I doubt his absence will cost us even a game.  He will lose the experience he would have gained by playing this year, but he will have the summer to get better.  He will be better as a soph in 2010-2011 than he would have been as a soph in 2009-2010, better as a junior in 2011-12 than he would have been as a junior in 2010-11, etc.  This only hurts Marquette basketball if he still only attends MU for 4 years or the injury becomes a continuing nuisance that prevents him from becoing the player we hope he will.

For some reason we extrapolate only positively for those whose time was cut short.  JFK would have been brilliant president, Herb Score would have been a first ballot Hall of Famer, James Dean would have won Oscars, etc., when it is much more likely they all would have disappointed and not finished nearly as well as we hoped.

Big Papi

Otule might or might not cost us a game but without him, we became a smaller team and with Hayward, Mayman and Mbao being very foul prone, we have the propensity to be a very small team.  Lets face facts, at times, we got abused down low last night and that was from a team that is making the jump to division 1.  Imagine the layups and putbacks we will give up with no size whatsoever.  Otule would help one way or another.

But to my main point, I think you underestimate how much improvement can be made during the season when the coaches get to the opportunity to work with the players full time.  By the time Otule is able to fully function, Buzz and the coaches won't have access to work with Otule.  Todd only gets him what, once a week and most of that time will probably have an emphasis of getting stronger after injury.

No way of sugar coating it.  The injury hurts Otule's development and MU next year and possibly beyond.  Having a big per class was a perfect balance.  Now we possibly have 2 in one class.  Furthermore, I really like Otule as I think he could be a solid big come his senior year but he does have a somewhat lower ceiling.  Redshirting him and having him an extra year could diminish our chances of possibly getting a better big in 2011.

Another real loss (that no one is talking about) is not having a guy out there in rec spex anymore.

I'm serious.
