Big East Tournament update

Just as I started to do last season towards the end of the year, I'll again do weekly updates and show everybody how the Big East Tournament would look, if the season ended right now. This bracket is updated to reflect the lone Big East game today, a St. John's victory @ Cincinnati. NOT IN TOURNAMENT: South Florida, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Cincinnati

Boy is teh conference there for the taking...After we beat Rutgers, Pitt loses to WVU and G'town gets beat by Louisville, we will be tied with Pitt, but effectively alone in first place. Whether all of that happens or not (so long as we don't lose to Rutgers), Saturday is shaping up as the game of the year. MU only gets one shot at Georgetown this year, and vice versa. I'd more than likely bet on a loss in that one, but if we some how come out of there with a win, we grab the conference by the throat and actually create a tiny bit of breathing room. Even if we do lose though, it is far from the end of the world. Now, go beat Rutgers, otherwise all of this goes to hell.

Not to assume any of this will happen, but what is the tie-breaker for conference tournament seeding if MU and Pitt split the regular season and have the same conference record?  Overall record? Record against common opponents?

I am pretty sure it is head-to-head, which would make that March 3rd game even bigger if we take care of bidness between now and then...

I believe it is your record aganst the top teams according to the standings. i.e., Better winning % aganst the thrid place team would win, with ceratin caveats having to do with the number of games played against that team. They work their way down the standing until one team gains an advantage. In a multiple team tie, they form a mini conference with those teams and use winning percenateg to determine standings.
