The Memphis insiders believe that he is going to cancel his visit to Florida and instead visit them this weekend to possibly commit.

One of the exact quotes was something telling Memphis fans to pay attention to their game tonight, and if they see Black there with the other recruits then he's committing to Memphis.

After watching/reading about him I like pretty much everything about this kid.

I am really hoping he signs early for his sake and ours.  It seems like the kid really has his choice of where he wants to play right now, and that the only thing that could hold him back is waiting till the spring when scholarship spots might limit his choices.  It would also go a long way in determing where buzz should be placing his time recruiting the next few months as well.  if we get Black awesome, but if we don't its fine, I just hope we have ample time to actively recruit another big.  It would really hurt this class if he waits to spring and chooses not to pick marquette.

We sign tarik and we are the best team in the best conference in the country for the next 3-4 years...that translates into competing for Final fours every single year.  Tarik just has to ask himself if he wants to go to an outstanding academic institution and compete at the highest levels in college basketball ...if the answer is "Yes" the choice is really pretty simple.

I guess you are assuming the rest of the conference stops recruiting.

Here's another update... Tarik is headed to UF for a visit this weekend.  FYI... the Gators are playing at South Carolina this weekend.  Sounds like we should know something by next Wednesday.

Tarik Black to Visit Florida

Tarik Black, a 6'8", 230 lb post player from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, will not be at the University of Memphis Men's basketball game tonight.  Instead, Black is taking an official visit to see Coach Billy Donovan and the University of Florida.  It is unclear what this means for his future with respect to the University of Memphis.  Black did say that he would be making a decision during the early signing period, so we should know by next Wednesday when the period closes.  Check back regularly with Memphis Roar for updates on this developing situation.

Evaluations of Tarik:

ESPN grades Tarik a 94 and had this to say about the big man.

    "He is one of the most efficient players in this class, regardless of position. Black understands his role on the floor better than most big men and relishes in the fact he can defend, block shots and control the boards."

Memphis Roar had this to say about Tarik's performance against the #3 overall rated player in the 2010 class Jared Sullinger at the Real Deal in the Rock.

    Tarik Black put on a interior defensive and rebounding clinic. Black's offense is somewhat limited, but if he is close to the rim, consider it over. At some points, it appears as though Black would like to rip off the rim and take it back to Memphis with him.

    An inside presence that will never go unnoticed, Black turned heads and grabbed attention with his monstrous blocks and dunks, often providing a much needed spark for his Magic team.  Black worked a great deal over the summer on his offense.  Inserting an effective hook shot/leaner, Black makes use of his body and is becoming a great all-around power forward.  Black also displayed a good awareness on the court, finding the open man, and passing out of double teams down low.  One thing Black can continue to improve on is his post-up moves on offense.  Black has shown great improvement and can continue to develop on offense.
